Last evening was my first at home in four days. And it got COLD during the day - the expected cold front was faster and stronger than expected.

So I wore my very favorite outfit of this winter: dark gray Lemon (from DSW) “fur lined” leggings; pale pink Caslon “mistake” hoodie dress from NAS (they sent the wrong item, but I loved it); maroon Prairie Underground long cloak hoodie; and tall MukLuks slippers. I am mad about this combination of pale pink and maroon, and the leggings are the warmest and comfiest things ever.

This morning we had surprise! freezing drizzle. Much colder and nastier than was predicted even 2 days ago. So I pulled out my favorite dressed-up outfit of this winter: the Emmy Design dress, from Sweden. Traditional Fair Isle pattern in royal blue, burnt orange, and white, 100% wool, and knitted with long sleeves, ribbed waist, and flared knee-length skirt. LOVE THIS. It’s the warmest dress I own, but it breathes perfectly and I almost never get too warm even indoors. When it arrived, it was several inches high-waisted and a tiny bit short in the arms; I wore it with a belt to visually place the waist correctly. After washing in Eucalan, the wool is even softer, and I took the opportunity to carefully stretch sleeves and bodice. They’re now the perfect length, so no belt necessary!

No thick tights this time; nude Wolford hose, with my cognac suede boots. The boots are very close to the orange in the knit, and bookend my hair.

And speaking of hair – it’s down! For pragmatic reasons: I can’t fit a hood over the giant bun donut! This is a style I came up with a few months ago: A large braided switch, pinned into a loop. Then placed around my head, with my own hair down. It’s not something I want to do for days on end, but I do like it.
