I like cardigans, but they always look frumpy on me. I really need a cardigan tutorial on wearing them without looking like my Great Aunt Gertrude.

I have been grabbing pullovers this season. Maybe the unusually cold weather is why. But I do plan on wearing my bright red and purple cardis this spring. They are too thin for winter wear, really.

The only way I've been wearing them is the more cropped styles buttoned with a few buttons at the top undone - basicallky worn as a sweater with no layering - I rescued a couple of closet orphan cardis this way. The longer or loose "boyfriend" ones just don't suit me and I don't like them unbuttoned on me any more. I don't like the "cling" factor for the most part. It feels like they want to cling to whatever top is layered under them and it bugs me.

I'm wearing cardigans still ... but purging my twin-set type cardigans.

I seem to have kind of abandoned my cardigans. I'm definitely in a pullover phase, and there are way less cardigans in stores it seems. But they are so practical, I imagine I will be back onto them again.

I wear them to work 4 out of 5 days. They are so practical, they will always have a place in my wardrobe.

I too have noticed that pullovers are more the trend item in knitwear this season. But I have not abandoned my cardis, in fact I have added to my collection. I have some fitted ones but am not wearing them. Mine are all a bit oversized and on the longer size, either with or without buttons. Cardis are part of my winter at-home wardrobe.

I love pullovers but they don't work for me right now because of my constantly changing body temps. o_O I need to be able to quickly remove layers. Blazers work well in this regard but I save the blazers for when I'm more in smart casual rather than casual mode.

I wear them a lot. Too much I sometimes think. I actually did a count the other day, just for fun, based on a comment that a friend made, and discovered I have 11 black ones!!!! Eek. They are all different, for the most part, but I'm thinking a bit of purging might be in order

Nope! I wear cardigans like its my job.

I find the softer look of a cardigan works better for me than the structure of a jacket.

Of course, that's probably because I have yet to find a jacket I actually like and commit to.

Wearing a cardie now. I do worry about the fump factor so I try an dmake my outfit interesting.

Not only am I still wearing them, I just bought a new one:

It does take some care to avoid the frumpy look, but I find cardigans endlessly useful as jacket substitutes. I prefer long ones, though. I've never managed to make short cardigans look anything but frumpy.

I am still wearing my bright coloured vneck knit cardis that I love to mix and match with sleevless shells and camis. I have one waterfall one that I still like, but I don't think I will buy more. Pullovers don't appeal as much because I find them harder to layer stylishly (I own exactly one layerable button down shirt) and because of body temp issues, like CocoLion mentioned, I don't want to be pulling it on and off all day messing up my do!
At this point in my style evolution I don't see myself wearing blazers or other toppers under a winter coat often. It's not comfortable and it feels too formal or fussy for my office environment. So I only have a few such jackets and I mostly wear them in the spring and fall when they act as outerwear.
So... I hope cardis are here to stay because they are a pretty important part of my style.

I'm wearing one now. However I did notice recently that I'd gotten undisciplined in my cardigan purchasing habits, and was buying ones in colors that were a shade or two off of being optimally flattering, and also buying ones that were too long, too baggy, too banded--in other words they didn't fit well. I had decided that cardigans were so useful that I should get one in every color.

Now I want to buy fewer, better quality ones. This can be hard--I've never seen a cashmere cardigan whose cut I truly loved.

I'm with you, cardigan's are classic and easy to throw on over pretty much any outfit x

I don't know why but I have always felt like Great Aunt Mildred in a cardi so I have never owned one since primary school.

The strange thing is that I love them on others.

I still love them and wear them often.

I'm wearing pullovers this year. But I expect to go back to cardigans eventually for at home wearing. I prefer jackets for out of the house or smart casual, as Denise called it.

I'm completely off cardigans, at least the regular kind... It has to be really unusual for me to not feel too classic... I think I wore them far too much in the past, and I can't for the life of me style a crewneck cardi.

Cardigan lover checking in. I will never give them up. They dress up and down and are cheaper than jackets. I can buy them in a myriad of colors and never worry about whether it's too loud.

I'm definitely not on Team Cardigan, but I do still have a few of mine and I enjoy wearing them all done up like a knit button-up shirt. That's about it though, I very rarely wear them as "cardigans". Still like them on others, though!

SO ironic - wore one today. But i have given up my hunt for a floral one.

Una -- I can't do crewneck cardis, either -- it's partly the preppy vibe, and partly that they don't suit me anyway. But a boyfriend-style cardigan, a little slouchy, with only the top two or three buttons done up, works wonderfully with all kinds of outfits. It essentially draws a v-shape on top, followed by an iverted v-shape underneath, suggesting a more hourglass body shape overall. The two v shapes have to come together somewhere just beneath your bust. Try it! I bet it'll work for you.

I have never batted for Team Cardigan. Pullover ALL THE WAY.

I do love the look of a certain type of cardigan vibe on others. Retro, masculine, arty or boho gets my vote - classic needs a good injection of modern.

I own more cardigans than blazers, even though I consider myself firmly on team blazer. For some reason I find cardigans easier to purchase than pullovers or blazers. It always seems like the most items in a store are the cardigan sections.

I love cardigans! For some reason I find blazers and jackets really hard to get a decent fit (broad shoulders? I'm not sure.) I also like to be comfortable, and jackets feel a little restrictive to me. I like long cardigans with interesting knitted details, such as the Anthropologie cardigan below. I don't really wear short ones anymore. I still like the waterfall style as well, especially when worn belted - I still see them everywhere, so I don't think they're over yet!

Oh no! I love the "dated drapey waterfall-front ones" that you mentioned! I used to wear a lot of crew neck cardigan twinsets pre-YLF so I got kind of sick of them and they've been purged. I only discovered the waterfall style since I joined a year ago. My red and grey waterfall ones are staples of my MOTG capsule! Great for preggo/nursing moms too.

Oh, I love a cardi - particularly in a bright colour! I think you'd seriously have to wrestle them out of my hands and wardrobe to get me to stop wearing them!

One day I'll be brave enough to wear one with a pencil skirt & take a photo - it's a pain when your body is bombshell & your brain isn't. I have 4 & wear them in the privacy of my own home:)

Nicole, not sure what you are looking for, but my Lands End catalog arrived a couple o days ago, with a floral cardigan on the cover. I haven't looked inside to see what else they have going, but it might be worth a check if you still want one.

I'm loving my sole light-grey boyfriend cardigan this year, for reasons Natalie and Denise have mentioned. So much easier to fit over an ever-expanding belly, so much easier to cool off said belly in without chilling the arms.

In fact, I am so keen on cardis this year that I just bought two more --- a woollen boyfriend style as well as a less-warm waterfall!

I've been kicking myself over my lack of decent (as in, can be worn outside the house) cardigans for several years. I find cropped ones as difficult as crew necks, maybe because I don't have much of a 'waist' (round-bellied rectangle here).
