You CAN invest, Joy! I know you don't wear very high platforms :). And even so, we will still see super high platforms in store for a little while longer as retailers squeeze the last bit money that can be made out of them. There are also some shows still showcasing them right now.

But going forward, it's all about heel refinement.

Thank you Angie, I don't see wedge shoes and smaller platform shoes dissapearing from a walking city like NYC anytime soon though. The platform helps the foot incline so much and makes 3-4 inch heels wearable. They are abundant here, in all seasons.

i think the girls here have a slight poison eye for heels of less than 3 inches tall. They are seen as frumpy, unless we are talking low wedge sandals. Here is either high heel or flat shoes, no middle ground.

Zap, things don't faze out immediately - to your point! And are you talking about NYC "here", or YLF "here". Trying to understand

Furthermore, I'm looking at Fall 2013 shows, which starts to rear its retail head later this year - and the years that follow. In other words - The Direction Of the Wedge Style in Years To Follow. What you are seeing on the streets now is still a remnant of what has been hot for the last 3 years, and it will continue for a while. I hope that makes sense!

Very informative thread. I'm so happy that lower heel wedges are still "in" and hopefully more on their way. Those Alfani wedges you recommended a few years ago, Angie, are still such happy favorites. Thanks for that!

I love getting info like this! Thank you, Angie! Thanks for posting pics of what's to come, because that will help me when I replace my favorite work-appropriate sandals that broke in the airport. The new styles do look delicious. Also I'm glad I got my wedge sandals at Target, so I won't be too sad when the styles move on for good!

I read that thread with interest. I only own one pair of wedges, which happen to be sandals, and since they are my ONLY pair of stylish sandals, I was glad to hear that they are not desperately passé. Mine only have a half inch platform under the toe, and are quite dainty.

On that note, I am delighted that daintier, non-platform styles are coming down the pipe. I don't mind a little platform, and it often does enhance the "walkability" of a high-heeled shoe, but the monster platforms are so....inelegant. It's not so much how they look, but how they make you walk. There's no way to avoid clomping around in them! It's hard to be elegant when you sound like a herd of elephants.

Haha, that's why I like monster wedges -- because I love clomping around in them! I feel too rough and tumble for refined heels.

Phew, I'm relieved that my wedges are still safe! Those platform wedge styles always overwhelmed my feet and skinny calves.

I'm glad to hear that the monster platforms are finally dying away. Maybe now I can find some summer shoes that I can actually wear! I always felt far too unstable and uncomfortable in the big wedges, not to mention gigantically tall.

Angie, I'm glad you added the photos to show the difference between what's on the way out and what's in. Visuals are very helpful to me. I only have one pair of monster wedges that I'm getting sick of anyway. All my other wedges are similar to your more refined styles so it's good to know they'll still work for this summer.

Ooooh, I think I'm in love with the new wedge styles! I really love the sleek, more refined nature, rather than the more casual feel of the wedges I have right now.

Although I do have a question Angie, the styles you posted seem to be mostly dressy. Do you think there will be a more casual interpretation of this style for summer, or will the wedges with cork/straw heels remain the dominant style of casual summer heels?

I'm with cciele, I do everything I can to avoid dainty and am definitely a clomper.
