I wore this outfit, minus the booties, out with DS tonight. We are considering getting him a crested gecko as a pet of his own, because a cat and a dog isn't enough already. Anyway, it was raining and I am still deciding on the boots, so I didn't want to wear them out of the house yet. Am leaning toward keeping, though I'm not sure they fill the hole I was trying to fill. I think I dug another hole just for them. Argh.

Ack! I need to forget I ever saw these. But now I can't. I simply can't. Darn you, Una. I do love them on you. I'd love them on me too. I think we should both have them. Even though I already have two pairs of black boots--tall riding boots and calf length Fluevogs with ribbon laces. Must D E S I S T. At least let me cast a yes vote for the crested gecko!

I think it's interesting that you fear shorter heels sacrifice edge. I don't think that's the case at all. And I know Anna feels this way but to me, seeing her wear lower heels hasn't taken anything away from the edge within her style.

What I do think they sacrifice is figure flattery, because you miss the leg lengthening effect of heels. Having said that, if you wear a black bootie with black skinnies, the effect is leg lengthening due to the uninterrupted line.

ETA: do your cat and dog get along? Any conflict resolution tips? My cat thinks escape is her only option.

Love the outfit and love the booties. But I am conflicted about them fitting into your wardrobe. It really sounds like they are only 95% what you want. Is it worth waiting for the perfect pair with a heel? I'm concerned you are "settling".

I am totally with Denise on this. Lack of a heel does not equal lack of edge. It just equals lower figure flattery (for me). But on you, these are fantastic. Love this outfit.

I am totally against the idea that edge requires heels and this is an excellent illustration of that point.

I agree with others in that I don't think a heel automatically equals edge. I think these booties definitely fall into the edgy category and look great with the outfit in this photo.

I seriously do not see why you are hestitaing on these boots. They are beautiful and look great with this outfit and I can see them working with a lot of things.

Okay, I misspoke. It's not that heels add edge, it's that I feel short IT me needs a chunky heeled boot for figure flattery and balance. I like flat shoes, like oxfords, but flat boots are an eye adjustment for me. Sorry for the confusion!

I'm glad you all like this outfit - thank you! I like it too. As I said, I'm leaning toward keep - sounds like MNSara and I may be twins.

Denise, we already had the cat when we got the dog as a puppy, and the cat has a very dominant personality. We've always had cats and dogs (huskies, which are supposed to be bad with cats!), and haven't had a problem. The cats have claws and have learned not to run if they don't want to be chased. Does your cat go outside?

Maybe we need to start an OT thread on this topic!

Our first cat and dog actually slept together and were best buds. So cute!

An outfit like this makes me want to come back as an IT in my next life - such a COOOL silhouette! I love this look in its entirety.
Are the boots a good addition to your wardrobe? well, they may not be the most "versatile", in terms of going with a lot of things... something more plain and minimal might be more "useful" -but usefulness isn't the only criterion for footwear, IMO. Your gorgeous outfit juxtaposes plain and minimalist clothes against the elaborateness of the boots - a lovely effect. I like!

My new theory: I think that embellishments on a shoe can make it "chunkier" - as is the case with the studs and straps on these. I'm just testing this out, so maybe I'm way off!

I go for a chunkier look myself to balance the hips and thighs - and think these would have enough "chunk" for me.

Jayne, this is a Heed sweater from last winter at Nordstrom. I think MaryK and Rae also have the same one. I have it in black and grey. I just saw the black in M at a local consignment store. It was a big UWP purchase for me, and I still love it. It's so strange that I don't think it will date for a while.

Looks like the boots are staying!

Alicat, I'm sure the cat will want to eat the gecko. We kept a wild vole as a pet for a year as a science project, and the cat and dog were both completely focused on eating it if possible. We just kept it in a safe place!

Those boots are awesome. I saw them today at L&T but they didn't have my size. Those spikes are sharp!!
