A softer palette and column of colour inspired by Mirjana

Loving Mirjana's column of pink, I decided to wear a column of lighter colours. It was cold and rainy and so I decided upon a column based upon my grey sheath dress. This subdued palette is quite different to what I have been wearing lately and is predominantly some of my older pieces. I was wearing a bright lip colour, but by the end of the day (when these photos were taken) that had worn off.

The dress has little silver studs over it which catch the light - so that is a fun detail and I love the fur cuff on my boots, fun to wear on a cold winter's day. The coat is cashmere, so light weight, yet warm, but I must confess I don't really love the colour.

I would be interested if you think this look works. It was a nice comfortable outfit, so definitely something for me to wear again if it meets the JFE test.

I like the outfit with the coat and bag. I’m less excited about the boots worn without a coat. Makes the outfit seem a little bit bottom heavy to me. Also kind of wishing that either the shirt was a little bit tighter or the dress was a little bit looser: the bunching of the sleeves around the armpits is distracting for me. I’m quite sure that all of the pieces individually are winners, and I think that with the coat and bag on, it works well as a running errands ensemble.

LOVE the palette Bijou, and you look very 2018. The tan coat is great with your complexion, and I like the unexpected cuddly boots.

I love the color palette, I think it looks pretty on you. Elegant, yet in an approachable way. The dress, top, bag, and coat work well together, and you look good in it. I like the boots, but not necessarily with this outfit. They seem a little heavy to me; I don't know if it's the color or the fur cuff, but something about them seems a bit heavy for the lightness & elegance of the rest of the outfit.

3Style - thank you for your observations. I can see how the shirt does bunch under the dress, so I have another more fitted shirt that works better than this one.

Ummlila - I see what you mean about the boots - it is so interesting to see things in photos that I just don't notice in a mirror. It may be time to pass on the boots, as I have other shoes and boots that would work better.

Angie - so glad you approve of this coloured coat on me - because it is a beautiful piece that is lovely and warm without being heavy. I would have been sad to pass it on, just because it is so lovely to wear.

What a lovely, elegant winter outfit! I love these colours on you, you look wonderful. The boots are interesting and unusual with this combo - I like the ensemble very much. Beautiful bag, too! You make me look forward to winter dressing again.

I’m a fan of the entire outfit. I think the boots are unexpectedly fun with it.

Londonkiwi - I’m so pleased that the colour of this coat is OK for me as I was a bit worried that it could wash me out.

Katerina -I am humbled, thank you and so glad you like my bag as I tend to try to buy mainly classic bags that will have longevity, with the occasional fun piece thrown in the mix.

Opaline - thanks for your comments and given it was a very cold and wet day, the boots felt seasonally appropriate.

Bijou, add a scarf if you want to liven up the tan against your face.

Angie a great tip, thank you. This is the problem I have with neutrals, I buy them because I think they will be very versatile and then end up feeling a bit meh when I wear them. Luckily black and white are not in this category.

I love these colors on you and think they work well. I personally would prefer taller boots because I hate having exposed skin in cold weather but they are fun boots.

RobinF - well my winter is not really cold. I love the look of taller boots, but given the very short window with which I would wear them, not to mention they are non-existent locally to buy, long boots have never really been something I have considered buying. I would say my winter is similar to a coldish fall day in the northern hemisphere.

karen13 - yes it can be difficult as someone with fair colouring not to feel totally washed out in these very soft colours. Glad you think it works for me. It was nice to wear as a change from my usual more saturated colours.
