A quick WIW, date

I was invited to listen to "slam" poetry in a café downtown + dinner. It's exceptionally warm and rainy.

First pic is what I initially put on, thinking about my old style. But I changed it because it didn't feel like me. Of course, comfort-seeking-me went for a Lulu topper... (pics 2,3,4). Oh, well, Let's enjoy while it's still warm enough. Soon it will be coats for us.

I'm posting this then off to the date!

"Slam" poetry?? I hope it's more fun than it sounds. You look great for whatever it is!

You look fantastic in both versions, actually, but what you wore will be more comfortable with the bizarre weather. The idea of leather in the humidity is sort of too much -- and, as you say, it will soon be coat time. So we might as well enjoy this. I went out in a knee length skirt without hose today!!

I had a fab fab time! It was great! The slammer was very talented and also sang with a small band, and quite well too. So it was a pleasant surprise all around. The show was for a charity helping the homeless.

My cotton Lulu topper proved to be a good choice in the end, as I didn't need to remove it once inside, which is a consideration when you go to these small crowded cafés with no space to really move around, let alone remove a jacket. I know I would not have been able to keep a leather jacket on. The envelope clutch, a thin purse, was also a good choice for the same reason.

@Carter: Slam poetry is a kind of presentation where authors recite their work in an almost chanting way, it's close to rap but with a slightly different rhythm.

@abc I think slam is very similar to def poetry jam, except there is very little pause in slam.

@Suz: Knee length skirt w/o hose! Yay! And at the same time: how strange for October, right? Did you post a WIW? Checking now.

I love the outfit you chose! It looks perfect for the occasion--flattering, laid-back, chic. The clutch is so great with the outfit! Glad you had fun. The poetry slams I've attended--many years ago--were actually competitions, judged by audience applause if I recall. Sounds like this was different. An impressive talent, in any case.
