Spending a month away from home — mostly in the bush of Africa — means a streamlined travel wardrobe and no frills. We are having an absolutely fantastic time, but fashion is taking a back burner for sure. I’m already sick of the tees I brought along. Also I am desperately overdue for a visit to the salon. My roots are horrifying — thank god for Madison Reed root touch up powder!

A couple of WIWs from days I actually bothered to wear a little makeup and make a slight effort. The other days were spent in full-out gear, in temps up to 107 degrees at the bush camp in Zambia (we learned the magic of a chitanga soaked in water and wrapped or draped on the body, either sarong style or like a blanket!).

We are in wine country in South Africa right now. Angie is absolutely correct that it’s a beautiful, friendly, and fascinating part of the world, and I am so grateful we are having this experience!

1-2 today for wandering around the wine country town of Stellenbosch. Smartwool hoodie tee with cutout shoulder and Athleta pants, plus the wonderful shoulder/crossbody bag I bought from the artisan in Zambia.

3 the elevator in the hotel in Cape Town had a little loveseat in it! LOL

4 My husband and I at the Cape of Good Hope — I want to go back! We may need to adjust our travel plans to make a return before we fly home.

5 for wandering around Cape Town - Pilcro jeans, sleeveless hoodie top and olive jacket

6 My husband and I with our bush camp guides. The people have been the most amazing part of this trip.

7 how beautiful and regal is this guy???

8 these protective elephants circled around the baby when our vehicle got too close.

9 ok, I look awful here, but this is the back deck of our chalet at Mfuwe Lodge — so many wildlife sightings without even leaving our room!

10 a tall friend

11 brunch in the bush!
