On the days when I actually bother to wear more than gear, I’ve been trying to keep track of what I’m wearing to help me evaluate my closet. Clearly I have a formula that involves my jackets! Which explains why I struggle so much more with warm weather dressing, when jackets are too hot to bother with. Nonetheless, I thought I’d share some recent outfits.

#1-2 are the same outfit, just remembered that I had the perfect scarf to match and threw it on at the last minute.

#7-8 are the same outfit — 8 just shows the concert tee I was wearing under the blue jacket. This band is led by a friend, so I took a pic and posted on IG to share with her.

#9 is an outlier — a skirt! My mom bought me this skirt a decade ago so it’s always sentimental for me.

#10 is my alter-ego who only leaves the house to go running or hiking in the woods on a cold day. The hat is from a St Vincent concert — I loved that I could buy a concert piece of merch to wear other than the usual tee, since I have a million concert tees.

Just love all these looks to death. That little bit of rock n’ roll you do, does the trick. Ok. But gosh. Have I ever seen you in a skirt?! Dress, ok; but skirt? Lol

Rachy, I know, right? LOL I barely own any skirts anymore. They’re pretty much exclusively summer items for me, but I decided to winterize this yesterday by wearing it over my running leggings (made for a quick change to go running after studio time). It was a little staticky by the end of the day but otherwise really comfortable. Definitely channels the more boho side of my style.

Janet, all your looks are really fab. You really know YOU! That floral bag with the scarf is making me swoon right now! And I may be copying 3-4. My poor button up shirts are just not getting any wears.

Colette, I have trouble with button front shirts too. This one is a popover style so the buttons don’t go all the way down — I actually had the side vents extended up the seams a bit so it would fit over my hips more easily, which made this shirt much more wearable. But I’ve learned to think very carefully before I buy any more collared button-front shirts!

I didn't realize it was a popover! I share the hip struggle with button fronts and end up either leaving buttons undone or semi-tucking. Brilliant that you had the side vents extended.

I’ve definitely got a formula in these, don’t I? Statement jackets, footwear, scarves and ring. The other pieces tend to be pretty basic.

You are very striking in black and I really like the black and orange band tshirt on you.

These looks are all winners! I like how you ply up your hair colour with wither black or bright, electric colors like that scarf and the blue jacket. In outfit 5-6, it's your eyes. Very weel played!
Also, you are the master of the leather moto! You mention you struggle with button down shirts and I'm curious why.

Krishnidoux, it’s a combination of things — button front shirts are not an easy fit for me in the first place. They tend to be cut too straight and I get gaping at the bust, and/or they get hung up on my hips. I can’t do any full tuck anymore since I’ve gained weight, so the hip fit has to be right. And then there is the matter of how deep the neckline is when you leave a couple of buttons unbuttoned (buttoned up feels too dressy for me these days) — many shirts seem to have awkwardly spaced buttons, so the opening either feels too high or too low without a cami or tank underneath.

Plus, collared shirts are often hard to combine with jackets in a way that doesn’t become fussy or fidgety — the collars often compete. I’ve actually cut the collars off of a couple of unworn shirts to see if that helps make them more casual and easier to style, but so far I still don’t seem to be reaching for them, so I’m not sure whether that’s been a successful experiment.

1-2 is the perfect example of how to wow an outfit with a *pop* of color. When I click on #2 I think I hear "pop!" I'm loving all the scarves.

I love #10! Makes me think of the scenes in House of Cards when Claire goes running.
