A couple of longer shorts try-ons; update w/ photos below

Inspired by Angie's post about long shorts, I looked for them in a few stores today while I was out shopping.

I tried on a couple of interesting pairs at Anthropologie and a more traditional looking style at JCrew.

The ones I tried at Anthro are Pilcro Gaucho shorts (pics 1-3) and Pilcro Cropped PJ Wide-Leg Jeans (pics 4-6).

At JCrew I tried on the Pleated Button Front Chino shorts in faded moss and white (pics 7-10).

I thought both of the Pilcro shorts were fun, but they didn't feel enough my style to get them. The JCrew shorts remind me of a pair I had in the late 90s that I loved. I was unsure about them in the store, but came home and ordered them to try again.

I am reminded how much I like shorts that reach the knee, and I think I might enjoy some even longer ones. I look forward to finding some more to try out.

Bonus pic 11: what I wore: cream jeans (Paige), wavy-print tee in pinks and earth tones (made by me), off-white Betty Cardigan (Sézane), cream loafers (27 Edit), sage crossbody Transport Camera Bag (Madewell), light olive belt (Fossil).

Just thought I'd share in case anyone is interested in these styles.

First, I adore your outfit #11 and I have to copy, amazing on you.
All shorts are very nice and fit you. I like the best Pilco #1-3, as it looks little different than classic shorts. Also love the white one. I am also a fan of the shorts that reach the knee.

I adore #1 but as I said in the blog post, they are right up my alley. I would buy a pair if I knew they would't be too warm for my climate.

Love your outfit, all of it and and your made-by-you Tee is totally fab. I like the JCrew ones best too, especially the white. Then the 1st Pilcro one.

A fan of the J. Crew ones. My eye has to adjust to a more wide-leg short, but you do wear it well.

I do like the green shorts, which have a more tailored, city look. The dark denim ones are similar to what I would call culottes. I agree they aren’t your style. The lighter denim ones seem too wrinkly and bland -maybe a very basic base for an outfit which also needs something very interesting on top.

Love the outfit that you went shopping in, such a great colour scheme, beautiful proportions too.
I’m partial to the J. Crew shorts, nice fit and length, seem a safe bet to wear for years to come.

Ooh,LOVE the shopping outfit. SO fab. My fave shorts is the Pilcro gauchos. Those are amazing on you. I like the light wash denim shorts as well for a relaxed beach look. The JC shorts are the classic preppy shorts which are kind of in again, now. I can see you making any of them work, tbh! So, basically, I'm no help!

Thanks for the shorts modeling! You look great in all of these. I think both Pilcros are fun and different, and you can't go wrong with classic shorts like the JCs.
The top you made is so beautiful, and your cream column is gorgeous.

Great shopping outfit! The shorts all look really good on you. That length makes my legs look super short but they don't do that to you. My favorites are the dark denim, a little different, almost like a skirt, and a great length.

TBH, I feel like the louder version of this new trend, long shorts, don't work on most people, even the models. But the first two you tried on, the Anthropologie ones, work really well on you, especially with the simple architecture of your shirt. And those are louder than the J. Crew ones.

I would highly consider getting those, although the J. Crew ones you picked are good, too.

Avicennia, I'm excited for you. I was surprised at how much I liked the gauchos, even though I decided they aren't for me. I think they run big; generally I take the smaller of my two current jeans sizes in Pilcro, and these were a roomy fit in that smaller size.

Speaking of sizing, gosh the shorts sizing seems to be all over the place. The JCrew ones I tried on fit best two sizes down from my usual size. I'm actually a little nervous that when they arrive they'll be too small, because it's just so unusual I would go down that far in sizing.

Ooh, fun! Thanks for doing this experiment. Of course you have the best legs, so you are going to look great in any short, but I have a special love for those first Pilcro ones, which are like a knee length culotte! I also like the J. Crew ones and can see those working seamlessly into the closet.

Your outfit for shopping was fab! Love the loafers and the green bag!

Trying on the JCrew shorts after the Anthro ones really impressed on me how traditional the JCrew ones look. For that reason, the JCrew shorts are both a little less interesting or exciting but also probably have a lot of staying power as ChristelJ and Dee suggest.

I also went to Aritzia and tried on the Effortless Pant shorts in mid-thigh length. I didn't take a picture. They fit well, but they weren't long shorts--haha! When I got home, I found them in a longer length and ordered them, along with a tee that I hope will match. I love this crepe fabric, which Aritzia calls crepette. I will show them here when I get them, probably sometime next week.

my 1st take: the green shorts are my fav of the group, but also really like the white.
not sure about the denim shorts...the 1st pair reads more skirt, and i like the idea of that, but not sure about the execution. the 2nd pair just doesn't do it for me, i think actually i would want to try them 1 size up so they were really baggy.

One for the best proportion and updated look! You do have the best legs for this length. The longer length #2 was too long to show off your assets and the J Crew, as you said are very traditional, also shorter so again, the proportion is a bit off. Love your shopping outfit too.

Agree that your shopping outfit is fantastic! I like the first pair a lot and would be all over them if I ran across them. The second ones look a little tricky in terms of easily getting crumpled and pajama-esque. The green pair look great too and I hope to see an outfit lab when they arrive.

Brooklyn and others who noted the skirt-like appearance of the gaucho shorts--it felt like a flippy skirt, which was fun.

Jaime, about the second ones having a pajama vibe, I was a little surprised when I looked them up online and saw "PJ" in their name! I wondered if they are in fact supposed to be pajamas! But they were with non-sleepwear in the store. They are an ambiguous style.
