I got the white and green JCrew shorts, plus two other pairs that I ordered. I decided against keeping the white and green ones shown above. They have a more preppy feel than what I am really after right now. And the button fly is difficult to button. I don't mind button-fly jeans, but the metal buttons on those are a lot easier to button and un-button than these small, sewn-on buttons.
I also received the Aritzia shorts and tee that I ordered. I'm keeping the tee, but returning the shorts; they are too small, and they are shorter than what I'd like.
These shorts are quite classic, but I think something about the drape of the fabric makes them less preppy feeling. The fabric is quite thin, and although they are 100% cotton, they feel like a cotton-linen blend. I think they will probably wrinkle like crazy, but I like them.
Photos 1-6 show the new JCrew shorts styled a few different ways.
1-2: with an asymmetric linen top with decorative stitching (made by me)
3: with a bandana-print silk tank (made by me)
4-6: with a striated floral print tee (made by me) & narrow stripe, short linen blazer (Eileen Fisher). 6 is to give a close-up of the stripes, but the stripe in the shorts doesn't show up at all.
Photos 7-8 show the Aritzia gray tee and shorts, alone and with a floral denim jacket (made by me), which I hoped to wear with them. I will wear the tee with the jacket, even though I'm returning the shorts. After numerous efforts to find things to wear with this jacket, though, I'm beginning to think I may give up on it soon. I did recently get a pair of Athleta pants that I could wear with it, especially now that I have a tee that will go under it easily.
