A classic pencil skirt - YouLookFab Forum

When I go downtown to the market I usually wear jeans and sneakers (last photo). But one sunny day I decided to wear my elegant, ladylike pencil skirt with heels. Sturdy heels as Haarlem (The Netherlands) is known for its cobble stones. Nevertheless high heels.
It was noticed.
I know ... because at one point I dropped my keys and a gentleman was very quick picking them up for me. And when I went into a fancy clothes shop, the owner told me that she and her assistant had seen me passing and had said to one another: "See??? It is possible to be elegant going to town. Doesn't have to be jeans and T-shirts all the time."
I had a good laugh because this was really only an experiment. Far too impractical for me. Back aches and sore feet.
Can you walk on high heels all day shopping? I cannot.

I think it is nice to be more dressed up now and then. You look great--elegant but not overdressed.

The days I could go shopping in heels are past. I do admire the women who can wear them, especially on rough surfaces.

You look beautiful in both outfits. But like you, I can't wear heels for hours on end. I do like a low heel -- around 2 inches -- but too much higher than that and they are "sitting shoes."

I wouldn't be comfortable walking all day in heels that high. I have worn my Paul Green platform heeled booties for a day on my feet at work; they are especially comfortable shoes, despite their height. Still, I wouldn't choose them for a full day of shopping.

Great experiment! I cannot wear heels that long or that high and when I shop I prefer to be comfortable. But I always wonder about women who shop in heels and are dressed up. Do they have a more exiting life than me? Are they coming right from work? LOL It has occurred to me on occasion to just get dressed up for my errands and maybe someone will wonder the same thing about ME.

I'm glad you didn't trip or sprain anything, I'm sure I would have. But you suffered for fashion, and lived to tell about it. It's nice to show what you've got sometimes, isn't it? I am completely in love with that small zebra bag you're showing in pic #4. Thanks for sharing!

You look wonderful in the pencil skirt with pumps and you look wonderful in the jeans with sneakers. I guess the important issue is how important is comfort. For those of us who cannot handle the pumps alternative for a long day of walking, it's nice to have the sneakers alternative.

Love this look! Pencil skirt, pumps and silk shirt will never fail to give the wearer elegance. I am happy that you avoided stiletto heels, however, the block heels are every bit as sexy, while making the stride a bit more stable.

I'm wearing heels less these days, and focusing on 2-3 inches when I do. I would like to have a pair of Cole Haan heels with the Nike technology. I've tried them in the stores and loved the way they balance your weight over the heel.

Thank you ladies, your appreciation is heart warming. As Beth Ann said, it helped that the heels weren't stilettos. I wouldn't have lasted. These Tommy Hilfiger ones are pretty comfortable.... for high heels that is.
Beth Ann talked about Cole Haan heels with Nike technology for comfort. Very interesting. I am going to look into that.
I have an Italian blogger friend who can walk on high heels for 10 hours. I have no idea how she manages. I tried to copy her (bare feet in closed shoes in summer...) and lasted one hour.
But I am sure you are treated differently according to how you are dressed.
