35x30: Week 3

Yup, 35... I'm out.

As expected, summer hit. And I wanted to bring out my new things, breezy things, things not on my list. I'm also going away at the end of this week, so will be confined for a couple of weeks by what I pack, so all of a sudden waiting until August to wear these clothes... well... just didn't make me happy.

I'm not apologizing, much as I loved the idea of the challenge, I just can't do it. At least not covering this time period, with the changing weather. Not when all my lovely things are sitting right there....

1. Red and white for Canada Day.
2. Work. Yup, I like dresses in summer. Forgot that when I put together my initial 30.
3-4 New Karen Kane top (Angie pick that spoke to me). Love this, asymmetry plus decent sleeves. Also notice the bag... totally copied Janet on this, and it's lovely... I LOVE this colour, and a bag in it was actually on my somewhat loose wish list.
5. Not loving this - I felt fine, but the picture looks kinda like I am wearing my PJ's. Maybe it's because you can't see the texture of the pants (they are not flannel!) Just too much volume. Proportion Fail.
6. Casual day at work (white denim).
7. New EF top - well, I've had it for a couple of months, but finally it's warm enough to wear.
8. Another lovely day - wore this to the Lebanese festival. A good friend of my DD was singing in a competition and she wanted to go and see her. Have to support her great attitude! Plus the food was yummy

I also had a couple of other "around the house" outfits I didn't photograph, which did (mostly) come from my casual capsule. Last weekends outfits were the same as the ones I posted last week. I was still trying at that point

I'd still love any comments and suggestions you have. Even though I'm officially a 30x30 challenge drop out

Don't feel bad about dropping out of challenge. Especially with your upcoming trip, it would have been impossible. Life happens sometimes

All the outfits are wonderful, but I especially like #2 and #3/4. The new KK top is great and really suits you.

I don't know about the challenge, but I bet the pants in pic 5 would be cute with the top & shoes in #6

I like the breezy dress in #2 and wish for a shorter topper in #5. No judgement for dropping out! I think we can all learn something different from the challenge. I wonder why I've chosen to limit myself to "tried and true" when I have so few things and some that aren't in the capsule are infrequently worn--I think if I'd enjoy wearing something lesser-worn, I should go for it.

That long cardi is so cool. Does it work with the dress in #2? It might almost look color-blocked, in a good way, with a column of teal flanked by white. The tote from #4 could be a good accessory for that.

I love #2, i can see why you would want to drop out of the challenge to wear it. I also like 3 and 7 a lot. And i also copied Janet with that bag! My only other leather bag is a black wintery thing, so this was perfect.

Don't feel bad about the challenge. You seem to have fun with fashion, and enjoy planning your outfits and love wearing all your clothes, and this is what all this is about. Your style is so colorful and fun, and I am in love with your shoe collection. Please keep posting your outfits, they are such an inspiration. Btw, I did like number 5, I get no pj vibe from it.

Elizabeth, do not feel bad about "failing" this challenge. I have been interested in it from the beginning and enjoy following what everyone is doing. However, I could not bring myself to choose what I would wear for the next 30 days. I can't even choose today what I will wear tomorrow, and say that I positively will wear it tomorrow. For the reasons you stated at the beginning of your post, weather and/or something new I would not want to wear something I thought I would 2/3/4 weeks earlier. All my comments are meant in a light hearted manner.

I faithfully follow and admire Sterling, Joy and all the others doing this challenge. I thoroughly enjoy it with them!

Hey, this is the first time I have been able to do a smiley face. Rambling Ann and Delurked told me how about two months ago. Never say never and never too old.

WOW! These are wonderful outfits. I don't think you should give a second thought to wearing your lovelies. What keeps me going with the capsule is knowing that the summer will be long and go well into the fall, so still lots of time to wear those things that I'm missing out on right now. It may help make the summer seem shorter.

That Karen Kane top is a great piece. I still have a block to buying long sleeved pieces that are not for cold weather, but am finding that my wardrobe needs more of them in this new climate with cool mornings and evenings.

I love both dresses and all the outfits. The only suggestion is that the crops in 5 might work better if they were a bit shorter, but I am still struggling with these myself. Try the Karen Kane top with them.

I suggest adding shoes for the first outfit - ok, sorry for the stupid joke
My faves of the week are #3-4, love a well executed black&white outfit, and #6 : I can feel the energy of that outfit pulsing through my monitor.

It is always so hard for me to pick a favorite amongst your selection. As you know, all the silhouettes and stylings appeal to me.

Favorite is number 1.

Next favorite is number 2.

Favorite after that is number 3.

Do you see where I am going with this?

On a side note, your rationale for bowing out at this time makes perfect sense. I will of course miss you terribly. Travel safely on your vacation.

Yes Emily, I agree... the cardigan is too much for the pants. Fashiontern, it does look nice with dresses, or a column of colour under it... just not wide bottoms!

Julie, it's a great bag, isn't it! Love that it has that outside pocket that is big enough for my phone.

thanks Dianna. I do hope to get back to posting my outfits, I got very lazy about it over the past few months. It's really valuable and helpful though.

Bridgie... I'm kind of with you, I generally decide what to wear in the morning, once I see the weather and gauge my mood. I love PLANNING capsules, but as you can see, execution is another story. Esp with a huge wardrobe. I could keep going... but why? Actually the change in temp is the real reason... we only get a couple of months of real heat, and I want to enjoy my sleeveless tops. had that challenge been the month of June, I'd have been fine. I think.

Skylurker - great suggestions! Why didn't I think of that! Actually I'm wondering why I didn't have shoes on... maybe it was a quick pic and the ones I was wearing were downstairs. I was heading to the cottage so they were probably nothing I'd admit to... gear sandals probably.

Sterling, I'm actually NOT sure where you were going with that... unless you're saying my ability to put an outfit together declines as the week goes on :). And don't worry, until I disappear at the end of the week, I'm still here.

To all of you: The challenge was still fun and useful for me. I went in with all kinds of ways I was going to break the rules, so my outcome was pretty much determined, but I still enjoyed it, and will continue to watch the rest of you for the last week. Thanks all, esp Sterling, for the lessons and wisdom that have come out of this.

Elizabeth, you look amazing in your very cohesive closet. Enjoy wearing it! You've built it up with purpose and deliberation (and occasional frenzy, lol!)

I love every one of these on you but my favourites are 3 and 6. I wonder if merely the addition of a bit of a heel (the shoes in 6?) with # 5 would alter the proportion just enough to make it work the way you would like? That's my observation with cropped wide legs for myself. But of course I'm short-legged, so it might just be a sore point!

I always love everything you wear, haha. So I don't even bother picking favorites. Good for you to use all of your clothes.

We have this ongoing conversation about sneakers, don't we. So I bought a pair of white ones on my trip, because shoes are great souvenirs and I didn't have white fashion sneakers. Very comfortable in the store, of course! Back here I wore them for an outing to a vegetable and flower market and about 60 minutes after our departure a blister was developing at the back of one and then the other shoe. So painful, I couldn't wait to take them off! Haven't worn them since, but I must slowly brake them in, equipped with bandaids at the right spot.

That's a good point Suz. Those shoes are totally flat, and very casual. Perhaps not a good choice. I have a couple of pairs of navy sandals that might have been better. I think I was trying to bookend the white, and these are my only white sandals.

Thanks Chouette22 Sorry about the sneakers Do you wear them with little sockettes? I wear ones that don't show in almost everything (that I can) now... so much easier on the feet, and the shoes too. I hope you can break them in, once you've healed. Body Glide can help as well.

My comment was very poorly worded. I was trying to say that I loved all of your outfits. My favorite is the picture that is immediately open before me. So my favorite changes as I rotate through the pictures. Sorry for any confusion.

Great outfits Elizabeth. #5 is actually my favourite - and I think the plaid crops have promise for mixing in with other tops. BTW, I can't fault you for wanting to circulate through the new. Our summers are short enough, so no reason to 'save the good stuff' for later.

I adore 3/4, esp with the pop of blue from the bag.

I don't see 5 as a total fail -- love those pants, and the colors. I think when you do long topper over wide legs, it has to be reeeeally long -- like a true duster -- otherwise it comes of a lil sloppy. Maybe you need a white duster.

35x30 is still admirable. I mean, I stuck with 30 items (29 actually), but I end up in gear roughly two days out of every seven, so my challenge was more like a 30x20, but I knew that would be the case going in. Whatever works!

You had a great week. I adore this gingham pants on you. Don't beat your self about challenge, it is about having fun end experimenting with fashion and everybody is doing it differently.
I am doing more like 20x30 at the moment

I had to dress for two unexpected meetings during the challenge. I reached into my closet for the pieces I needed to give me confidence. If I include them in my challenge, and I guess I should, I am at 32 x 30. I am still considering that a win.
