Sterling and Windchime....yes, why is it so hard to get rid of something that isn't working?

Interesting challenge and I am wondering why you are giving a grey cardigan you don’t like that much a chance. It is interesting how we do that. I like to give my wardrobe items a chance too, and I think it’s because **occasionally** I’ll start to like them, given some clothing combination I hadn’t thought of before.
At any rate, the stand out is your amazing topaz necklace!
I also love your Uggs. It has taken me YEARS to come around to liking these, but now I think they’re funky!
Have a great weekend Sterling!

Checking in on your challenge. I like a lot of these silhouettes on you. The Kut bottoms are nice. I like the jewelry and pops of color. Definitely release the pieces that are bringing you down.

I also repeat outfits. No reason not to. It makes clothing last longer if they don’t get washed each time.

It’s not going to work for me to join in this month, but I’ll be following you. One last thing - you seem to hold yourself back (velvet with plaid) and think others have some sort of boldness to combine things you do not. Would you ever consider trying a combination at home on a day with low interaction as a way to get used to new to you combos? I recently was doing a try on session with my closet. I have a leopard cami I wanted to pair with a plaid flannel shirt, and I tried it on with a stripe skirt. I love it. I think you just need more times where you see these things on you to get more comfortable with them. Kind of like when I recently was looking for a bolder red lipstick. The first time I tried it on I wanted to wipe it off right away cause it didn’t feel like me. The lady helping me said when she switched to a bold lip she had to avoid looking at herself in the mirror at first. Now it was a signature of hers. It’s not a signature of mine, but it was something I wanted to try and I went through several attempts before finding the right shade and consistency. I bet other people put on similar colors and didn’t ever think twice. But if I want to do it too, that option is available to me. And dressing in any combinations you like is available to you as well.

You are so wise, Delurked.

So let me start Day 7 by saying I made the decisions to donate that perfectly good Banana Republic Long Line Cardigan. I thought about it long and hard after reading Brooklyn's comment on this thread. The others that supported this decision helped immensely. I washed it and put it in the donate pile.

So I am currently at 9 items in my Challenge.

1. Grey ponte pants (Best Buy)
2. Navy blue long sleeved tee shirt (Favorite, Most Comfortable Tee)
--. Grey long line cardigan (DONATED)
3.. Kut from the Kloth dark blue jeans (Best Buy)
4. Gap white short sleeved tee shirt (Best Buy)
5. NEW Landsend navy cardigan (Purchased to make a "suit" just as Janice from the Vivienne Files has taught me to do).
6. Nordic Track Half Zip Fleece Top (would be a Best Buy but I have come to realize I hate Half Zip Tops).
7. Old Navy Boyfriend Velvet Top in Medium Blue (Rapidly becoming a favorite).
8. Kut from the Kloth 'Diana' Ponte Pants in Black (Solid Purchase).
9. Gap Cotton Cashmere Shawl Cardigan

I decided to rejoin life today and get dressed. I am going to wear jeans, tee shirt, and GAP Shawl Cardigan.

Sterling, it's music to my ears that you're exploring new colour combinations and adding dark blue to your wardrobe. You shan't regret it.

Good going ditching the cardi. Now, let's talk about why you still have the half zip fleece top when you "have come to realize you hate half zip tops".

Laughing with Clementine. I was sitting in a chair yesterday asking myself the same exact question!! It comes down to quality. The half-zip garment is really thick and extraordinary quality!! I sometimes ask myself, can I afford to replace this piece? Will I ever find such a good quality piece again in the future?

My goal is to use the 30 x 30 Challenge to overcome these thoughts. I don't want to keep sub-par items "just because."

Does it really come down to “can I afford to replace it?” Or do the thickness and quality feel really good on? The first sounds like a very close relative of “I’ll buy this because it’s inexpensive/on sale”.

Good catch, Fashintern. It is not that exactly, but closely related. In 2017, I noticed that the quality of merchandise in my stores had significantly diminished. YES. It is true! I began to wonder about the quality of the items I was donating versus the quality of the items I was buying. I began to wonder if I would be able to find and buy as good a quality in the future. Then I began to wonder just how much it would cost me to replace an item with something of similar quality.

I hope this makes sense. It could be too down there in the Rabbit Hole.

Good for you for removing the grey cardigan from your wardrobe, Sterling! I bet you'll never miss it.

You're inspiring me to take a hard look at a thrifted black velvet blazer I've had for a year or so. I never feel fab wearing it and think what I need to do is replace it with something I actually like a lot. It's one of my 30 x 30 items, the one I'm least excited about. I added it because it's PRACTICAL.

It sounds like you're getting a lot of value from the Challenge already!

Thanks Windchime!! Once I made the decision, it all made so much sense to me. I actually feel relief. You and I deserve better in our wardrobes!!!!!!!!!

Sterling, you are doing really well, I am impressed by the structured and systematic work you do on your 30x30.

I totally understand your thoughts about quality - I am often thinking the same. I have passed on some pieces from my wardrobe, which I know were of such a quality which would be hard to replace. However, I have never regretted passing them on. For one reason or another I was done with them. I simply did not want to wear them any more (for various reasons). Maybe my style has changed, maybe my body has changed, maybe the fashion has changed, maybe the piece had never been right, who knows. I hope this makes sense to you.

Oh Katerina! Thank you for posting. That is so helpful to me.

Sterling, I forgot to say that what I wrote about passing on good quality stuff - in my case it NEVER applies to accessories. I am happy with keeping them all, even if they in periods do not get used. Just to be clear

Sterling, I love the colours that you used on day 5. Good job on donating the cardigan.

I get it now, but hadn’t thought of overall declining quality on my pass. Thanks for explaining.
