1x12 new boots. Keep or return?

Comfort wise they're 10's. The boot on the left in the pics has had the laces adjusted, the one on the right of the pics is straight out of the box.

These would be every day boots for wearing with dresses and jeans. I've been looking for something with a fitted ankle and low but not square heel.

Since I'm only planning to buy 12 items this year these need to be 10+ workhorses to earn a spot in my wardrobe.

I quite like them, especially with the laces adjusted! Are they comfy around the upper shaft of the boot?

PS: Have you tried them on with tights (if you wear dresses with tights)? One of my kick ass pairs of boots didn't fit because they made my calves just THAT much bigger.

They are unique and fit you well with the laces adjusted. Do you love them? I like the way they are every day boots but statement pieces at the same time. They seem like one piece that can instantly elevate your outfit.

They are very cute boots. I like the way they fit your leg and ankle, and the lace-up style in back. Love the color, too; I think it will go with just about anything, and it looks good with your coloring. Do you mind that they are not quite knee height all around? I like the style, with the front higher, but if these were my only pair of tall boots, I might find that style a little limiting. I have some tall boots with a lower shaft and some higher ones, and I wear the higher ones way more often.

I really like them on you! If you add a sheer hose in the same color as the boots or the dress, the vertical lines will blend a bit more. But they are fine the way they are, too!

Ooh, those are super cool. They hit your calf in the perfect spot (left side esp.) The lacing and ruching are great details and they seem to suit your casual yet polished style. Do you love them?

I really like them, but I think I'd probably prefer them the same height all the way around. But once you've adjusted the laces they suit you very well.

But the important thing is do YOU love them? If you don't love them now, you might tire of them quickly.

I love them. I would kiss them goodnight every night.
Are they too close in style/character to your Frye Veronicas? That would be my only hesitation - I think they fit well, fit your style, etc.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I love them, but I'm going to live with them at home for a few days to make sure. Sometimes I think I'm in love and I'm wrong, sometimes I fall in love slowly. I'll have to give it time. Dh is fully in love with them.

They're a bit less rugged and more fitted than my Veronicas. I like that they're more shapely and have a little more feminine heel. On first try I'm not sure they will work with jeans but should be ok with tights.

I do think frye has me spoiled for quality. These are definitely not in the league of true quality.

I've realized I need lace ups to get a fitted ankle and calf fit. I thought the back laces left them a little more refined and versatile than front lace ups. Anyone agree or disagree with that logic?

I agree with you about the lace up the back being more refined and versatile than laces up the front. The latter are a more distinct style, often with a boho vibe.
P.S. I agree, too, that they're a good addition to the Frye Veronicas--more fitted, feminine, etc., as you say. And if these don't work with jeans tucked in, your Fryes will, right?

I adore them with that dress and think they would be super versatile. And I agree with your logic about the back laces. They are more refined at first glance since there's a nice clean front and then the laces provide a bit of fun once you see them. I think they're great!

Well, are you in love? I am not 100% sold on where they hit on your legs, but I see that I am in the minority here :). Since you are doing the 12 items thang, I see the merits of letting them sit around for a few days, to see if your ardor grows or cools.

I do not love them on you. I think the colour looks muddy on my screen, and also the laces look really high contrast with the boot shaft. I also prefer boots that are the same height all around -- I fear that the front 'greave' part of the boot will twist or roll in time.

But that is me! If they are a 10 in comfort, and you can use them in multiple outfits and feel sassy wearing them, then that is your answer!

Given the fact that you are shopping so selectively, I am not sure these are as perfect as they should for taking one of the coveted 12 places. I do not consider that length of boot too flattering. I think you are better off going shorter or longer. I am not sold either on the side view. I think you can do better.

Bumping in hopes that Angie chimes in. I think I've heard her say petites should aim for a lower boot, but these may not be hitting where she likes to see them. Proportions are hard!

Eta: the outfit here is not styled for the boots, just what I happened to have on when they arrived.

Tricky. I really love the colour and love the way they fit when properly laced. But I'm not sure about the height for you. It's a bit difficult to tell with the photo angle, however. How about getting someone else to snap some pics from different angles to give us a few views, and maybe styling them? I think they do work well with your overall style. But if they are one of only 12 items this year, they should be very versatile.

I think they would look good with jeans, but I'm not so sure about dresses. I also am not crazy about the high/low effect, especially where it hits your leg in the back. But only you can decide if it's perfect enough to be worthy of being one of your twelve.

I already warned dh that he is going to have to help me take a ton of pictures tomorrow to post and help in the decision making. Since I don't post enough wiw for you all to be familiar with my boot wardrobe I'll include those friends in the pics as well so you can see where my holes are.

Also, since the color of the laces came up, they also came with a pair of red laces. I'm assuming those would also get a thumbs down as being too high contrast? or would they be so intentionally high contrast that they would work?

I can already tell I'm falling in love with them because I'm finding myself nodding along with all the yays and coming up with arguments against all the nays.

When you feel like that, you've found one of your twelve! And, just maybe, learned a little more about your personal style preferences? While it's nice to get opinions, only you know what makes your "happiness quotient" soar into the stratosphere. If these are the boots that do that, then these are YOUR BOOTS! With red laces, to boot (VERRRY bad pun, but I couldn't resist.)

blerrg! Countless technical difficulties have put a damper on my picture fest. For you you're spared the onslaught of pictures of boots, pictures of outfits with boots and pictures of other boots:)

I noticed last night when I got to my home computer that the pictures above do not show the true color of the boots. They are a mid grey, called "mist".

I don't think they hit you on the best spot on the calf, and I think you could find a more flattering height boot. For that, I'd say return. However, looks like you really love them, and if so, that's the most important thing!

My first reaction was that I love them! Then I went back to read the comments and I still love them. They fit extremely well and if they are comfy - well, then your payers are answered

You have classic knee-high boots, (correct me if I'm wrong), so these make a nice change, Traci. I find the length edgy and that's a good mix of silhouettes for your style persona. Edgy does not mean "conventionally flattering" - but still flattering enough to look attractive and cool. I hope that makes sense.

If you love these boots, FWIW, they have my blessing.

I say if you love them, keep them. I'd love to see how you'll be styling them. I like the color, but I'm still trying to figure out the laces. Do they wrap around the back of the boot or am I having computer issues?

If they'll work for your 12 things, I say keep.
