Fun Fashion Fact

Did you know that in 1890 Louis Vuitton patented the tumbler lock, a new kind of lock, invented by Louis’s son, Georges Vuitton, that was said to be unpickable. It is said that father and son were so sure of their lock that they challenged Harry Houdini to a public escape. Houdini’s response is not known.

I’m totally fascinated by that Target collaboration article. It’s like the serpent eating its tail. Who influences the influencers? I’ll be eager to see how this plays out over time.

I saw a gorgeous young woman going to work on a bus yesterday.
The buses around here not notable for style icons. She was undoubtedly going to work at a small outdoor mall, so clearly not wealthy. Tall, slender, fine-boned with darker luminous skin. She wore camel stretchy almost-skinnies, a black slightly plush upper-hip length top with a built in white collar to look layered, an off-white leather/pleather zip jacket, slightly cropped and with double rows in front of small tailored self-ruffles, a slouchy pouchy inexpensive looking black bag with birdseye woven in pale grey dots and suede moccasins with a neutral gum colored sole and faux shearling peeking out all over. They were in pale cocoa and made the whole outfit. I wondered if they were camping type slippers. She really looked amazing. Later that same day, I was at the same mall picking up a few household needs at Walmart and as I passed through the slipper department, there they were! Did that young woman originate her outfit combo on her own (street style) or did she glimpse the same thing on pinterest or a site like whowhatwear (commercializing street style)?

I too found the Target/WWWear collaboration article fascinating. The more I think about it, the more I applaud their ability to get this collaboration going. I keep thinking about Greg’s post recently about web ad sales being a “race to the bottom.” It’s no small feat monetizing a web business. (I can say the same for a restaurant.) Good for them for crunching their data and turning their knowledge/ image /brand recognition, into something of value.
