WIW: You say PO-TA-TO sack, I say PO-TAH-TO sack

Hi YLFers --

Sorry to still not be participating much; I'm 8 weeks into an intense work project and trying to spend time that's left after boring life stuff offline.

The longer my hours, the more my Persnickety Bohemian side rages for boho luxe escape. This voluminous sack tunic* is as close as I'm gonna get to wild times for now....

I had this altered, but it's still a lot of lotness and probably an acquired taste. No worries if you hate it. And no my mid-40s butt is not pregnant, ha.

[Mr Vix is not a fan --> SO Poison eye thread candidate, woo hoo!]

I of course love the print and colors passionately and had to have it despite the shape(lessness). Hey, I said I was experimenting with volume this spring/summer.

ALTERATIONS: Sides rouched, neckline swooped, sleeves slimmed

WORN WITH: Straight-leg navy tropical wool pants for work, cargo skinnies for play

COLORS TRUEST IN: Photo #1

Please go have some summer fun for me while I toil!

That's completely gorgeous! Of course I love boho. What a difference those alterations make. It's potato sack turned glam My DH doesn't like my boho looks but I don't love everything he wears either. I figure his hole-y old concerts tshirts are his version of boho!

I love your illustrations of alterations before and after. It's so instructive. And the blues in that top are beautiful. I see why it appealed to you and you wear it well!

Bossing your clothes around! Love that! The alterations make a huge difference. Volume, yes, but with hints of the outline of the slender shoulders and torso beneath. The vertical line in the print offsets the volume, too. Of course, the billowing fabric that floats over your form must feel terrific and look particularly nice in motion.

And I so get a bit of rebellion in your clothing. When my DH was still in the pastorate, I had this enduring craving for leather...............

A big general "thank you" and a scoop of potato salad for each of you before I run off for the day!

Rouching is one of the easiest alterations (but alas I have to pay others to do it...at least easy = ~ $10!). Happy to take a close up/inside out shot if anyone needs it when I get a little time.

[Though first I have to nose around the forum and do more than let my tired brain go, "oooh, pretty pictures!"]

I can see why you fell for it, too. The fabric is gorgeous, and the style is billowy and fun. The alterations make a big difference, and it looks stylish with both pairs of skinnies. I prefer it with the jeans, but I do the same thing, substitute skinny pants with tops that I want to wear to work. I would not have thought to ruche the sides. It works nicely to give a shirt-tail hem effect: big difference in the volume. Good luck on your project. I hope more leisure time is on the horizon for you.

I cannot believe the difference the alterations make. What I want to know is how you have the vision to foresee this and make it occur. How do you know the difference between wrong and potentially SO RIGHT?

I remember we used to talk/write about how similarly we like slim cut dresses and this reminds me of a WIW I recently had where I just let go of the waist and wore a long tunic sweater as a dress

Somehow the billowy-loving side has to come out!!!

I'm always glad to see my fellow boho lovers around; thank you! [Jeanie, ditto on the ratty Tshirt/boho standoff, ha.] I'm not gonna lie: I have some unscheduled time this weekend and I'm going to be looking hard for the YLF boho-centric threads to help put me in the chillax, already mindset.

I've turned on the lava lamp and put some Janis on the turntable for us...just sprawl on the tunic's cousin, my gingko leaves bedding (photo 1). Beth Ann, do feel free to wear leather if it's still an urge!

And KatieKat -- Man, if only I could bottle your enthusiasm and spike certain people's coffee; thank you! I've been doing a fair amount of billowing over the last couple of years, often over those structured pieces you and I love. Some snaps below, may be old hat to you/others. #7 was a test shot but I do have arms under there!

Vix! Those outfits are gorgeous! The colours are so beautiful and vibrant! It looks like billowy really is a part of your style! #4 is absolutely gorgeous and #10 I find so interesting due to the drape! You totally rock the long over lean and I love the combo of structure and billowy volume!

Thank you all! Yes, these days I'm very bossy with a lot of my clothes; I'm a selective control freak and clothing is a good option. I'm in total withdrawal from collaborating on custom clothing (it's been well over a year) so this tunic was a great outlet!

Of course I'm now looking at things I've been debating about getting altered and feeling very lazy about just "debating."

[I wish I could say everything I owned fit perfectly, but....I also wished I could say my floors were spotless, I was caught up with all my friends/family, and my meals cooked themselves.]

Lyn, Suz, Firecracker -- Ditto the above but I had to give you some extra attention due to sharing my love of this fabric/print. I'm pretty sure I'm at high-risk for turning into Marie on Breaking Bad with her signature purple but I don't care!

Alaskagirl -- I think living in a fixer-upper for so long has made me both open to exploring possibilities and stupid about falling in love with things and MAKING them work into my plan. Or adjusting my plan. [Hate that part!]

Concretely, I keep binder clips and twist ties handy. Clothing that's close but no cigar gets "explored" with said tools. Sometimes it goes off for alterations clipped/tied so I can better communicate what I'd like to see happen.

I love transforming things and wish I could cure my impatience and learn to sew but...we all have our strengths. I will live vicariously through the talents of the YLF seamstresses/sewers!

ps to Firecracker and Adelfa -- I swear your well wishes helped; I'm seeing the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel with my project and it may not be a train. Thank you!

What gorgeous colors! Your clothing clearly illustrates the importance of knowing what you look good in and sticking with it! Your alterations also illustrate the importance of proper fit. I'm inspired!
