WIW new dress, grey tights & the booties

Suz

Got this dress at 30% off yesterday. Am trying with charcoal tights plus the Krishnidoux booties and hoping I can carry it off.

I felt I needed something at the neckline but don't like this necklace. Suggestions? Or maybe the neckline is fine bare.

You can't really see all the textures on the dress. It has a sort of lacy knitted overlayer on top of a plain flat knit underlayer.

I like the dress, you look great! I think it definitely looks nice without the necklace if you're unsure, because the dress has so much interest on its own. The pearls somehow seem too bright and chunky for this outfit. What about a more refined necklace or a long pendant necklace? Or what about a scarf? You could also wear it without a necklace and bigger earrings. Or maybe belt it?

OMG, LOVE! So pretty it makes me want to cry (you AND the dress). It shows off your figure--heck, it just plain fits, which must be really fun after swimming around in too-large clothes for so long. I really like the grey pearls, but completely understand the reluctance to wear them. I'm finding out that I have neclace issues, lol! I saw some long tassel and ball pendants on my trip, and that might look good with this dress. Or maybe a drop earring? What do you think?

This is a really lovely dress, Suz. And I echo the pendant idea. The dress is delicate, so a more elegant, low-key necklace would work well.

Oh, thank you all! Suzanne, the dress came from a shop in my town called I Mode. The manufacturer is Dolcezza, and the parent firm is Michael Phillips, out of Montreal. It was a very inexpensive dress (esp. with the discount) and I do not know how long it may last (esp. given that it is a knit) but I thought it was worth a try.

Thank you SO much for the confirmation re the beads; they didn't feel right, but I do think I want something so I will try a long pendant and also maybe a scarf.

I don't mind the pearls but the outfit looks great without a necklace too. Maybe you could try a single strand pearl necklace (I do love the grey/silver pearls with this dress), or how about a fab pair of earrings?

SUZ!!! I love it!!!! This look is so you! Great with the black and silver, asymmetry and pretty floral embroidery pattern. And the booties are the perfect touch. Way to go...I love how you're really honing in on your artsy edgy writer look. Modern and Victorian at the same time. I could totally see you getting into the steampunk vibe, by the way!

As for the necklace, the color is nice but it's a little too classic with the pearls. How about a funky silver pendant instead? I'm thinking one with a feather shape to represent a writer's quill. Something like this Etsy one called "Writer's Key" (random one I found by typing in Quill Pendant):

It would go really well with the silver details on your dress plus it would be a subtle nod to your profession!

Suz - this dress is beyond gorgeous on you. It's both funky AND feminine. What a beautiful look. I agree that the necklace seems a little heavy for the dress and think either a long pendant or no necklace at all would be just right to showcase that fab dress on you!

Beautiful dress, it fits you so well! I also agree no necklace, and would go with long statement earrings and/or a wide cuff. The dress has some good vertical lines built in, but a long metal pendant would also look great with this.

Beautiful dress on beautiful Suz! What a lucky find, girl. i like it the way you styled it - tights and booties included.
As for the necklace I don't thnk this one looks bad at all - it all depends on what mood you want to set. I can see this necklace looking very cool with an addition of a denim or moto jacket. If you want to convey a more delicate feminine vibe then a pendant or short but delicate necklace will work. Earrings are another options...
I am sure you will find a lot of great ways to style this dress, Suz!

I think the necklace is great, actually! I think the heaviness comes from opaque hosiery and the relatively low-heeled bootie. Try it with sheer hosiery and a grey pump?

I love the pearls but understand how you feel. The dress doesn't really need a necklace, and I agree that statement earrings (not too big) would do the trick. You have created perfect proportions here and I love he booties.

Suz, how did I miss this? You look so good, so jazzy and effortless! You wear this dress delightfully. The vertical lines give you height, while the style reveals your svelte figure. I understand you feel you want something more around the neck, something on which to anchor the eyes. I agree and it would compliment your beautiful smile. Have you tried a small, delicate chain necklace ? Something discreet but that would catch the light when you move.

Gray really suits you too. I love the play on texture of this piece.

This dress and the other skirt are magnificent buys. Thank you for sharing the designer! I will be looking for it myself.

PS regarding the knit and your apprehension, may I suggest trying to wear it with some for of lining such as a petticoat? It will prevent distortion. One of the first place to deform in a knit is the behind area from sitting etc. but lining does help a great deal. And this dress is worth caring for!

Now tell us what outerwear and bag you envisage with it!
