I've been terrible about taking outfit photos lately! This one is from Sunday, and I managed to get some shots but still didn't get to post until today. At least I've been able to see what everyone else has been wearing.

Sunday afternoon I ran some errands (I'd completely forgotten it was the Super Bowl, but I was thrilled at the lack of traffic and checkout lines): it was bout 42 F/5 C outside, but as I have to drive, and my errands were indoor ones, I didn't want to have to carry a coat around inside. So I decided to just dress in wool, which would keep me comfortable in the parking lot but not melting once indoors. I was not in a tights mood, which narrowed it down to wool trousers, and these are the easiest pair of those that I have to style. Since they're so full and fit my waist, I just treat them like a skirt! Tucking into trousers like this reminds me of the 1940s & Katherine Hepburn, who always looks more natural to me in trousers than dresses, & all of those WWII women who started doing men's jobs and dressing the part.

I knew I wanted to wear a wool cardigan, and I like the slightly dressier feel of this medium grey merino one (I think it's the sweet little buttons, which are also on the cuff). Then I thought about all of the sensible wool and two shades of grey together and knew I needed something quirky to make the outfit a bit more playful. This silk polka dot blouse seemed perfect: easy to tuck in, silk is lovely in cold weather (and in every kind of weather, let's me honest), and who can resist smiling at polka dots? Finished things off with my silver belt, silver rings, and my grey lace up ankle boots as they have a slight heel (maybe 1"?) that these trousers need to keep from dragging on the ground.

I always wear wool hats in cold weather, so I stuck with the grey theme for the hat, which has a pom pom on the back for extra fun. I left it on indoors for my errands too, as my hair was being fussy. Now I know why all those ladies used to wear snoods!

Personally, I consider this outfit a definite success. I was warm, comfortable, and felt oddly glamourous and sturdy/ready for anything at the same time. Suddenly I want to wear variations on it for the rest of winter! It's making me re-think my decision to only wear narrow trousers (a decision made during a closet sort out a couple of years ago, when I realised I never wore my non-narrow trousers other than this pair, because all of the other ones wouldn't allow tucking so I couldn't get the styling right). I might be on the look out for another pair or two that fits like this, in different fabrics, in the future.

(As we were just talking about rises, I measured these trousers as they sit at my smallest point/belly button, which I like: from the seam intersection to the top of the waistband is 13.5"! I'm only 63" from top to bottom, which means 20% of me is rise! lol)

Input welcome as always! Am I correct that this type of trouser is actually quite flattering on me or have I been overly swayed by the comfort factor? Does the full tuck work? (I never fully tuck into my skinny trousers, even the pair or two high enough to hit my waist, as it looks off kilter to me.)
