Yesterday my son have started school. The whole day was a wonderful, wonderful experience, something I will treasure forever. The warm atmosphere at the school, the sweet, unpretentious, meaningful reception ceremony, the children, their parents, the new friendships both him and us have already made - it makes me teary every time I think of it. His teacher, who is namesake with my two (!) best friends, reminded me of my own teacher whom I absolutely adored.

This was his second start of the school, because as 4.5 yo he already went to school for a year while we lived in England. But, since kids start school later in Germany, after our move last year he had that extra time to settle in properly and yesterday we could just sit back and watch him comfortably move around the new school. We could not have wished for more.

I did not realize just how big thing the start of school in Germany is until yesterday. After all the lovely events at the school, the blessing of the children at the local church (with Pachelbel's Canon in D playing on the organs, just in case eyes remained dry until then), going back home was quite a thing - the people were stopping us on the street, smiling from across the street, congratulating, wishing happy start of the school - because although yesterday was the official start of the new school year and children with school bags were all over the city, everyone recognises new school kids by those big cones (schultüte) they carry around which you'll see on the photos and it was somehow everyone's day. An amazing experience.

This was a huge, huge step for us a family.

As for WIW... my son loves blue color, which I'm pretty sure I've mentioned once or twice, so that was the theme of the day. I have only one nice shirt with blue colour in it, so out it came, I also wore the pencil skirt I pulled out from the storage as well as the shoes. My husband wore the navy blue shirt.

The funniest moment of the day?
I was literally walking on clouds after his teacher approached us and talked with us briefly, I just felt so nice in her presence. Because the first teacher is such an important figure in child's life and especially because our son will really have only her to rely on until we catch up with the language, I felt happy and relieved because that first contact was so nice and spontaneous.

Later I said to my son: "You have a wonderful teacher!", and he replied: "Yes! And she wore blue too."

He is the best

Before you go to sleep
Say a little prayer
Every day in every way
It's getting better and better

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
