Thank you all, your comments extend the excitements and magic of the day even longer. I am happy it feels natural to want to share this day with you.
The more I think of it, the more I'm mesmerised by the tradition of the school cones. I hope to share a few more things with you later, it's interesting how many non-Germans did not know about this tradition, while our lovely Astrid did not know it was German-only
Speaking of that, my new neighbour, a Spanish lady who moved here a few weeks ago with her family and whose son started different school on the same day - knew nothing of the tradition. She was so grateful I pointed out the school cone tradition to her so her boy did not feel left out on the day on his ceremony.
My son's was certainly distinctive and cheerful. Apart from those in the shops, I only ever saw one school cone IRL, so it was quite a challenge to design and make ours, but I wanted to make it and it was actually quite cathartic process for me personally. And the start of school - after turbulent couple of years before and after our move - was a sort of climax. I felt everything simply came together and fell in the place with him starting school in the new setting.
