I have to giggle at that description, Angie. While I do consider my wardrobe pretty casual (considering what I want to wear, but don't because it just isn't practical)- I am often the most "dressed up" person at a gathering, and am often told that I always look so "nice". Where I live, they take casual to the limit.

This is so fun to read all of your lists, and then read Angie's take on them!

I wish I could join in, I just can't think of only three words that describe my style. I think it's because I like and want to try a lot of different "styles." I can't seem to settle on one thing. Sarah (sarbear) once told me that she thought that a big part of my style was that my "box" had no lid, because I like to try lots of new things. I hadn't thought about that before, but when she said it, it really clicked, and I have to agree.

Khris, you *do* always look nice – KEEP IT UP. Giggles aside!

o Maya – fab description. You nailed it. And you *have* come a long way from where you started. Your style evolution this year has been stellar with zero budget.

o Vani – you are urban and polished! I’d have added in a little modern classic funk.

Kristen, you are a clever little sausage for achieving the new body you are in and embracing every moment of style that accompanies it :0)

Ana, unless your style has changed, which might be the case because you don’t post that frequently anymore, you definitely have a clear sense of style and I can describe it in three words if you like. For the most part, you are trendy – which is why you try lots of things :0)

Oh! I love this post. I've been pondering it too since I took a peek at the site at work. Don't tell.

Others:
mature
modest
practical

Goal:
sophisticated
edgy
impeccable

I think I have a good word for those struggling with an ever-changing style: liminal: it's like being on the threshold on something new. How does that work? Did anyone else ever see Judy's (a forum member from a while ago) blog with this name? It always stuck with me.

This is a little hard for me: I haven't posted very regularly, and with the job search and other changes I feel like things have shifted a little for me. I'd welcome anyone else's thoughts. I think I am seen as:

1. modern
2. crisp
3. feminine

I want to strive for:

1. sophisticated
2. modern
3. creative

Current
- unadorned
- modest
- unpolished

Goal
-appropriate
-pretty
- structured

I'd like to hear Angie's POV too

I am way late to this, what an interesting thread! I could only come up with 2 adjectives - urban and unfussy (on some level they may be related) for my goals. Right now I might be just work in progress :). In the past I mostly stuck with classic look because I wanted to be taken seriously, whether it's in my professional environment, school or what-not. Now it doesn't matter much anymore - or maybe it was all in my head.
As for the point about stepping up the polish after 35 - I need to work on that too

o Alecia – your look is NOT mature! I’d have said modern-classic, clean and retro.

o LE – from what I’ve seen, you’re spot on.

I can’t *believe* I’m the only one who has used the word “trendy”! What’s going on around here! Well Ana has too, but Ana doesn’t know it yet :0)

o Marianne – I like your descriptive words! I’d have added clean-cut.

o Anne – you are unadorned and modest. But your style is absolutely pretty and that’s the first word I would have used to describe your style. That goal is achieved!

What a great thread. I have a very limited time these days for a few more weeks, but this was too much fun to pass!

I could come up with this for myself. Is this a fair assessment, Angie?

Currently what others say:
- Sophisticated
- Trendy
- Sharp

Goals:
- Sophisticated
- Timeless
- Daring

I was hoping you would weigh in, LOP! I have missed you.

o Legacy of Pearl – You are 100% trendy and sharp. But also one of the edgiest gals on this forum! I'd have used the word edgy. And your goal of being daring has been totally achieved.

Current style:
- sloppy
- approachable
- inconsistent

Future style:
- elegant
- feminine
- consistent

This is fun.
As my husband and I left the restaurant tonight two 20 something-ish women stopped us and told me I looked *so fashionable*.....so I will start with that:)
They say you can live a month off a compliment....I plan to* milk* this one for much longer!!:)

fashionable
classic
polished

After almost 52 yrs...mission accomplished:) better late than never.

What others might say about my current style,

1 Evolving
2 Interesting
3 Basic

My style goals,

1 Sophisticated
2 Interesting
3 Approachable

This is very hard to do. It took me a long time to stop at these words without adding in a bunch of variables.

Yes Angie, if you want to I'd love to hear your words for my style.

o Mac – have I seen your style? Your goals sound fab :0)

o Taylor – I’ve seen your style and I think you’re solidly spot on! Well done. Don’t change a thing.

Well done for chiming in, Sandy.

o San – evolving and interesting are excellent words to describe your style. I’d have used modern-classic instead of basic. And you have a totally approachable style, so as Taylor would say – mission accomplished.

Ohh - I may be too late ( I was at book club). What others might say:

classic
traditional
approachable

My goals:
sophisticated
modern
polished

Edited to add that I definitely feel like it's a work in progress!!!

I just found this blog a few days ago. I stayed up almost all that night reading and fell madly in love... with the whole YLF site & philosophy. Haven't yet posted any photos and not sure I'll be brave enough to do so any time soon.

Not to late Julie!

o Julie – modern -classic and approachable are spot on. I’d have used the word pretty instead of traditional. And you’re already polished, so goal achieved :0)

No worries, Mac. We are happy to have you onboard and are here to help and support in which ever way we can. Wecome!

This topic is so useful. Angie you have given me goals to keep me on track by using words for me such as you do. It's good to have some perameters to work within and towards. It's not that I want to be boxed in, but that I want to sort out what I am not.

Ahh, such a great thread! Why do the best ones always explode while I'm sleeping? Actually, this is a very tough question. Took some thinking, for sure.

Current style:
o Urban
o Current
o Practical

Goal style:
o Urban
o Eclectic
o Sophisticated

Angie, I'm noticing that a lot of us have eclectic as a style goal... perhaps a eclectic-themed blog post is in order?

This thread really exploded while I was asleep. Love it!

Here are mine.

What others have said:
- Euro (not so difficult since I live here;-)
- spunky
- urban

My goal:
- imaginative
- elegant edge
- confident

(this really is hard, I have to stop myself from throwing in a few more!-)

Oh my goodness, I am loving this thread so much! So glad it's brought so many people out to play, and I adore how many of us already have such a great understanding of our styles; each one I've been nodding and thinking, "Yep, that's the word I would use for you too!"

Ana, I think you have a very defined style -- because it IS always evolving and you don't stick to one type of look. If I were to use 3 for you, they would be:
-trendy
-experimental
-sophisticated/complex

I LOVE when you post because I never know what it's going to be, and I always love it. I especially think of the fabulous period challege series you did when I say "complex"; you have a knack for evoking not just the attitude you want, but you make every detail work together and have its own individual interest.

And heehee, Angie -- that's very sweet, but it's not the same with the prompting! I am waiting until it just randomly pops out when you are critiquing an outfit of mine; that will be the real test that I've achieved my not-so-secret-anymore goal. Some people wait for the KILLER feedback, I want the "clever little sausage".

To me, "clever" means wearing ordinary pieces in an unexpected, almost cheeky way; there's a little humor/levity involved, a little imagination, and a lot of panache. Inge, Shell, after5, lwc and Antje are among those I would describe as clever dressers. Does that make sense?

ooo this is tricky! here goes,

! Modern
! Daring
! Diverse

I think that pretty much working as my goal too, not sure i'd want to change were i am now, really happy fashion wise.
Would love Angie's thoughts x

Super thread!

My style is:
- practical
- feminine
- classic

As boring as it sounds, that's what I aspire to as well. It fits my personality, job, & lifestyle.

oh, so fun! great thread, kristen

i think my style is:

* fun
* bright
* eclectic

i want it to be:

* sophisticated
* effortless
* clever (as per kristen's description in your comment to ana -- love it!)

i am working on getting to my goals, but would love to know if angie (or anyone else) has any feedback -- i never know how to peg my own style!

What a fun thread?

I think my style is:

* Professional
*Girly
*Brigh

I want it to be:

*Effortless
*Sophisticated
*Edgy

Angie - I would love your take on my style...assuming I have posted enough outfits for you to form an opinion.

This is tough!

Current style:
1. Urban
2. Modern
3. Trendy

Goal:
1. Creative
2. Modern
3. Clever - exactly as Kristen describes!!

Urban doesn't make the second list because, in a way, it's just a given for my lifestyle, and always will be, so it seems like a throw-away word to me.

Modern makes both lists because I hope I'm always current and evolving no matter what my age.

I put trendy under the current list, because I've not been afraid to try a lot of trends. But there is something about that word that bugs me as I grow older. I guess "modern" implies trendy in a better way to me. And I think "clever" is a much richer word - I love that it implies a certain amount of playfulness in fun, which is definitely in keeping with my personality!!

Creative makes the goal list because I do consider myself creative and I do want to project that, especially professionally.

I would love to put "sophisticated" on the list, but I think even if I wore the most sophisticated clothing in the world, it would somehow not suit me - the clothes would appear incongruous with my cutesy-type face. Sigh....

Waiting for your 2 cents, Angie!

SHINY!!! I knew you would not be able to keep to the 3-word maximum. Teeheehee.

This has been so fun to read. I think I had such a hard time picking words for the same reason as Ana. When I pick clothes, I don't think, I like this because it fits this part of my style. I just go with things I like and they can be very different. I think that the reason a lot of people have stayed away from the word "trendy" is because in my mind it either has a more shallow connotation OR an unattainable quality reserved for what you see in the media (the second connotation being what I attribute to Angie) but if you're just taking it to mean trying lots of different styles then I can see how it applies to Ana and me.
