How important is hair to an stylish look?

How important is a meaningful coiffure to an outfit, in your opinion? Is it necessary to the complete package?

I know some of us skip makeup, but hair...?

I think hair is big part of the image one puts across.

If your hair is neatly styled and you are wearing ragged clothes with holes, what does that imply?

If your hair is RATE styled (like mine, heehee) with the same clothes, what does that imply?

I rate "a good 'do" (which can look fabulously and fashionably RATE) as important as an excellent bra and eyewear. It's part of the top three before you address the clothes, shoes and accessories.

If you are talking about hairstyles ... I have just one. *Let the hair do what it likes* style. Occasionally a blow dry for may be a special day.

And I skip make up too. An eyeliner and a lippie takes me out the door. Thank god I do headless pics

ETA - But if we are talking haircuts then I love a kick a$$ haircut

What I know about hair is that when it isn't right, I don't feel stylish at all, no matter what I'm wearing. I've learned the hard way that I need an actual style to feel good.

Mo, curly hair should not be brushed so you are spot on. Greg doesn't brush his hair either. But he wets it and uses product daily so that the mop behaves.

In some ways my hair and eyewear are my style - and that's why I spare no expense on those aspects of my look. They inject a modern integrity into a classic piece, which is a pretty practical tool to have at your finger tips.

Ummmm. Think about old ladies: No matter how stylish their outfit, that teased, under-the-hairdryer-with-curlers hairstyle will make them look like they are stuck in another decade. Same with aging Baby Boomer men with thinning hair and super skinny ponytails. Get rid of it!!!

Disclosure: I finally changed my hairstyle after figuring out from old pics that I'd had it for maybe 15 years. My spikey 'do used to be edgy, but after awhile I stopped getting compliments on the street from total strangers. Duh! Time to change.

I think the cut and color is very important. When I look at pics of people over time it's the first thing I notice, before anything else including clothes. It also has a huge impact on how faces read I think. When it comes to styling, I'm unsure, I tend to go very light on product or heat and then I see it on a windy day or after pulling a top over it quickly - i.e. every single one of my WIW, ;), and it's not so great. Ideally the cut would be good enough that it would just fall how it's supposed to. (Different for cropped hair of course).

I'm also somebody who brushes my hair once a day (it doesn't tangle ever).

I think I need to try messing with heat and product a bit more.

Hm, I think cut and color are important. I felt MUCH more myself after I cut my hair and it was not (literally and psychologically) weighing me down.

That said, I don't style it. I run a brush through it in the morning and that's about it. I have forgotten to brush it on occasion and nobody can tell. I sleep on it wet and let it dry how it will. I don't think I've used my hair dryer (well, for hair at least - I have used it for DIY projects!) in the last year.

The thing about hair is that I'm not interested in it the way I'm interested in clothes. So I want it to look good but I want to spend minimal time thinking about it. I am happy sporting the exact same hairstyle every single day. Kind of like Steve Jobs and his black shirts.

I think hair is really important. If my hair doesn't look right, nothing else matters. A great haircut can make rather ordinary women look chic, if not beautiful, but stylish clothes cannot overcome a bad haircut.

For me, yes, pretty important. I felt completely off and not like 'me' the whole time my hair was really short. I need to feel feminine and for me that meant longer hair. I know plenty of ladies feel feminine with short hair but it wasn't for me. I feel off when a restyle and cut is needed and everything I wear feels the same too.

Diana I feel exactly how you feel and have the same routine :). The thing is bangs/fringe. I think they don't just stay in one place without a little bit of training in the morning unless they are very short or very long. I think I need to grow mine out more to assist with this.

Also visible roots -- I've dyed my hair since my very early 20's when it decided to go all gray at the top part (and just the top part) while teaching high school. Someday I'll go all gray but I'm not there yet. Maybe I can do a white/black sectioned hair look at one point during the transition, hmm....

Rabbit, that's a huge reason why I haven't had bangs since I was 10 years old. The upkeep and maintenance is way more than I can or want to handle.

i think hair is just as important as foundational undergarments or clothing. I am having a very very difficult time right now. I have an unorthodox hairstyle now. I wear my hair in a mohawk and I am starting the Dreadlock process. The natural afro hair takes time to lock and it unravels so at times I have to wear head wraps because my have is challenging at times. I love a neat appearance and un all of my wild hair I think it adds to the flavor of who I am as a Urban Warrior Night.

Oh, I think it's so important to keep your hair updated and in good condition! Some haircuts are so dated that I barely notice what the wearer has on....the hair has set the impression. Now, I don't think you have to necessarily "style" your hair. Over-styled hair looks more dated than casual hair, to me.

I think hair is an important part of your overall style as is what you decide to do with your face. As a minimum shiny healthy, neat hair and clean healthy skin are a minimum and from there you can extend your style statement via the hairstyle you select and the makeup you choose to apply.

Absolutely essential to my look. I wear mine in an inverted angled bob with bangs (think updated Louise Brooks), it's a trademark and I get it trimmed every 4 weeks to keep it looking good and the angle sharp. I don't feel stylish if the "do" does not look good and it gets washed or at least conditioned and blown out everyday. Hair trumps eyeliner, concealer, clothes..it's numero uno to me.

Personally I feel looking your absolute best from head to toe is the complete package. A haircut/style that suits your hair type, face shape, and lifestyle is important to the complete look. We all try clothes on to see what looks and feels the best so why not hair and makeup.

Hair for me is the most essential element of the look I put forth...When my hair is a mess, I am a mess..literally...And hair is one of those things that goes wrong the day you run into someone you wouldn't want to see...know what I mean..
I wear my hair shoulder length or a tad longer and really enjoy long hair...
I can get away with a lot of sins but letting my hair go is not one of them...

So important to me. Although just the opposite of Diane G - when I grow my hair past jaw length, I just don't feel like me. I'm a short hair girl - I think it meshes well with my bold, colorful, fun style. I get trims and color every 5 weeks and make little changes from time to time to keep current.
