BR faux-wrap dress

I love this dress, except there's way too much cleavage showing for me to teach in it. Does anyone have a solution? Should I just try using a safety pin? Or should I come to terms with the fact that the dress just isn't a 10 and someday I will find a wrap dress that's more teaching appropriate?

Yay = keep and find a way to overcome the cleavage

Beautufl dress, fantastic color! I just about always wear a cami under my wraps, becuase I'm old and people don't want to see old cleavage. So, my advice is to try a cami!

HI! Kate, I think that dress is beautiful, so I would definitely try a cami, or a cami bra like they sell at Soma....I'd link to them but am too much of a novice to know how!!! :(!!

To be honest, I do not love the look of a wrap dress with a cami, since it kind of ruins the point of the v-neck to me, and that's one reason I don't wear wrap dresses. The cleavage factor just does me in. It doesn't look like you could put a couple of stitches in without ruining the look, though others with a different cut might be fixable that way.

Oh Kim, but that would be all too logical!

Here it is with the cami. I just hate getting dresses that have to be worn with something else - the point is that I should be able to throw on one item of clothing and be ready to go! I guess on the other hand, it makes the dress more versatile, since I have the option of wearing it with more cleavage when I'm not teaching or attending classes...

Me too, Kate - isn't the whole point of a dress that it should work on its own? You have a fabulous figure... I think wrap dresses are just difficult, all the hype aside. This looks fine to me, but I would be irritated by having to wear the cami!

Another vote for cami. If a cami layer would show through for some reason, you could cover "the girls" with a scarf draped over the front.

A scarf is an excellent idea, I use them alot to cover up too low necklines. I think MaryK does this too. Can we see it with a scarf please??

I use the cami or scarf trick all the time. I am very phobic of cleavage at work.

I think it's okay with the cami, Kate, and certainly appropriate, but I like the 'look' better sans cami--in fact I love it without the cami (but obviously not teaching-appropriate). Are wrap dresses always a problem this way for you? Might it be the case that a different wrap dress would not require a cami to be appropriate for teaching? (Not being blessed in the bust department, I wouldn't know ;))

Rae, Kim, and Scarlet, the scarf is a great idea, however it won't be a year-round solution in Tucson. We had highs in the 80s at the beginning of this month, and it won't be scarf weather again until probably late November. I'll take a picture or two with a scarf when I'm back at home.

Stephanie, I honestly haven't tried enough wrap dresses to know, but it has been a problem with the handful that I have tried. I would love more input on this from anyone with more wrap dress experience!

I like it with and without the cami. You could use it with the cami for teaching and without for date night or dinner out.

The dress is so great. I like it with or without a cami. You could add a more colourful one to add a bit of interest and change the look. Yellow or pink would be great, I think.

Have you tried fashion-tape? I've never used it but read about it not long ago at alreadypretty.com. That might do the trick and would probably work better than a safety pin.

Or, you could simply give the dress to me. :-))

I would suggest going up a size just to try it out. That might help with the cleavage issue (more fabric to wrap across the front) and it would look smoother from the back view, IMHO.

I like this and would add a cami for modesty when needed. Maybe the faux part of the wrap is part of why you have this problem? I have a similar sized chest and my wrap dresses fit well with not too much cleavage. But I have true wraps that you can cross over further for more coverage. Just a thought . . .

I really like the color on you .I always find wrap dresses dificult to wear without a camisole underneath.

You all are such enablers! I was feeling ready to return the dress after I took the pictures this morning, but now I'm leaning towards keeping it... I need to try a couple other tops on underneath and check out how it looks with scarves before making a decision.

Kate, I bought the same dress in black when it went on sale a few weeks ago. I usually am not able to do this with many real/faux wrap dresses but I was able to use safety pins to close the neckline and draw it high enough to avoid cleavage (although in this picture you can see some). Something to try!

When I have time I think I'll sew in snap buttons or something.

As someone who cannot even dream of wearing a wrap dress without a cami, I think it's great with the cami! maybe try to find once in the same color as the dress?

FYI/from my "live and learn files": If you think you have cleavage from straight on, make sure you check out the view from when someone is standing over you. [Use a hand mirror if your BF isn't willing to volunteer.]

That said, I like both variations on you -- camisole for teaching, without if you like for play. As someone who prefers V and U neck items, I have enough camisoles, "bralettes," and plain (non-lace) edge full slips to choke a horse. I just consider them underwear that allows me to carve out a little shape on my torso.

Vix, wonderful advice and funny to boot! I think I have enough camis for now... I might also see if any of my basic tank tops will work with it too, and then I'll have TONS of options!
