I have returned navy BR Martin trousers because I could not stand the fit from the side. However I have ordered them in size down to see if the fit is better and also navy Jacksons in size 12 to compare the fit. Sized down Martins were on the snug side for my liking BUT still had that weird bagging on the side which I could not stand. I think this particular style is just not cut for may body because I have other Martin pants without this bagging issue. So back they go.
Jackson fit was better but on the snug side as well but size up would be too big . I am returning them as well and this is the end of my hunt for navy trousers for now.
However I have spotted an electric blue pair of flannel Martins on BR website and decided to order them just for fun. The came and this post is a result of this.
Size up is a perfect fit (as much as I can find a perfect fit in pants) with just enough level of slouch and fluid fit I like but without being baggy. The weight is a bit heavier that navy pants so they would be warmer for winter. It is 99% wool and 1% spandex.
So the question is: is it a crazy idea to add such bright blue trousers for my winter wardrobe (not even mentioning that it would be pants #8 in my cool weather wardrobe!)
I like the trouser leg but it is SO not practical for our winters! If I keep them I would taper them.

So I need YLF wisdom to set me straight that keeping these bright trousers is the most insane idea. I did try them with some stuff from my wardrobe and they kind of work with navy, black and winter white for sure and maybe with other colors as well ...but maybe I am kidding myself. I think I will post these tryouts separately as well...

Not Angie, but that is one of my favorite colors and I think you look great. Bright pants are out of my personal comfort zone, but if you like them keep them. Objectively speaking, you look really good.

I think they are super fab! You can wear them with your polka dot Only Mine sweater and your white shirt, your tux jacket, your white Danier, your orange silk shirt, many other shirts and sweaters as well.

So did you take back the checked Martins, too? Or just the navy ones?

I think they look really good on you. I think more color combinations might come to you the more you wear them and get used to the color.

Love these pants. I know you get a lot of winter weather, but can I put a vote in for not tapering? One of the things I like about these pants is the silhouette. ( I'll still like them tapered, but I like the change.

kkards, Lyn, pastrygirl - I like them as is too but the problem is that my 2 pairs of wider leg trousers AND bootcut jeans do not get much wear because of the weather / heel height restriction so I am afraid those won't get it either. Also they are heavier in weight and all wool so they would be perfect to wear in the dead of winter - and no trouser cut can cut it for our Canadian winters for me!
Anyway I decided to wear them as is for now until the snow comes and see how it goes - I can always taper them later, right?

Great rear view! I find this to be a really useful color addition to a black/gray/white wardrobe. It punches up all of the cool neutrals (and I wore mine with navy today, see my WIW) but in a slightly more restrained way than red or hot pink or many other brights. It's like a bright without wearing a bright, partly because it plays so well with other colors.

So the navy Martins fit you differently than the checked ones, then? That is so interesting. I like the fit of the navy Martins but have not yet committed to keeping them.

I am quite tempted by these bright blue trousers myself! You are a very bad influence on me. Then again, I have been ordering and sending back (or holding without cutting tags) like a mad woman, so...

I sent back the Pleione blouse. I wasn't wearing it. It was the fabric plus the bold contrast that got to me. I decided I really want a crossover blouse in that style but not that colour and preferably silk, although if it is poly that is okay, as long as it is a colour and pattern more in my comfort zone.

Suz, one word about these cobalt pants: they are WARMER than the navy. Much heavier fabric - flannel - like - so should be much better for our winters.
Yep, navy fit me really strange, like there is too much fabric on the butt and it bags out. Plaid is a different fabric though - again not as thin as navy and it has a poly in it - and they also run a bit smaller in the fit - as well as cobalt ones. Interestingly enough my black lightweight wool Martins I got last spring are the same weight and supposedly the same cut as the navy but they do not bag the way the navy do. Weird!
As for the Pleione blouse - it has to be in your comfort zone because it is a strong statement item. This poly is not bad actually, the weight is pretty substantial and it is OK for a fun trendy item I guess. On the other hand it is bold and may feel overwhelming for you. It did not LOOK overwhelming but it is what you FEEL which counts. But I am glad I got the red one because it does add variety for me!

Nicole, they are regular length which is 33" and just long enough for me to wear with 2" heel. There are at least 1.5" to let out if you are thinking about them!

As for that deck - yes, it is nice and I will enjoy it if it will not kill me first!

That fit is amazing! I'd say keep it! Also, from what I've seen of your WIW's you wear a lot of neutrals and many of them (navy, black, ivory to name a few) will go with the cobalt!

Hey, you're using to wearing bright/light trousers so this is just a little hop, not a leap!

They are so very flattering (there's that commitment to great-fitting pants again) and as you say practical for your climate and closet. Will be fun to see them reinvented with a taper.

The tags are off and they are waiting for the final steam. It is a bit too warm for them this week but I am sure this almost-summer weather would not last long in my neck of woods and I will be able to debut them very soon!

I vote keep. I have a pair of cobalt jeans and they are quite versatile. And fun to wear on dreary days. These are going to look great with your white/black striped top from NAS. I wear mine with my cobalt jeans all the time.
