I have been trying on boyfriend sweaters for ages but I could never find exactly the right one. I’m curvy and I always feel like my bum looks huge in these sweaters. And, I love merino and thought the sweater would hang better and be less clingy in that material.

I was on a business trip last week in a warm climate. The Ann Taylor in Baton Rouge had a wonderful selection of merino pieces (why do they try to sell merino when it’s still 80 degrees outside?) The Ann Taylor closest to me (two hours away) was already somewhat picked over when I had been there last. Anyway, I picked up two of boyfriend sweater in teal and purple – two of my favorite jewel tones from the late 80s. As a fair skinned brunette, these are some of my best colors.

I wore the teal with gray bootcut ON sweetheart cords, a grey ruffle tank from the Gap and black wedge boots. Despite feeling like I had a lab coat on, I liked the look.

Angie, thanks for pushing me to reconsider the boyfriend sweater. I had pretty much given up on this look. And ladies, I recommend trying a look on in several differnt fabrics before you give up because the “hang” can be quite different.

I’m so glad you haven’t given up on boyfriend cardigans, Shari. I’ll admit that you need to adjust your eye to the look, especially when it’s left un-belted. It’s a fabulous style on curvy lasses and I had the AT cardi on a short curvy lass last week and she looked KILLER.

The boyfriend sweaters do not work on me, but the shorter cardis with the jeweled buttons and the legacy silk blouses are great.

I also picked un a short sleeve wool sweater with a jeweled collar that works great for Florida.

I just wish they would have some skirts that are not pencils….
