The season’s 3 denim silhouettes

September 18th, 2007

Apart from a handful of ultra-high fashion and cutting edge styles, it’s all about 3 mainstream denim silhouettes this season:

  1. Wide-legs: also known as “un-skinnies”, these jeans are dramatic and elegant. They’re good for tall pretty pears and are best worn with a heel if you don’t have height. Trouser versions of wide-legged jeans are particularly classy and versatile. They’re most flattering when they’re slim on the thigh and flared at the hem. Ultra-wide styles that are wide on the thigh tend to make you look wider. Remember that you need to keep it fitted on top if you add volume on the bottom. If you don’t, you’ll loose that long lean line.
  2. Skinnies: stove pipes and straighter legs remain a favourite for tunics and longer length tops. They’re the best option when adding volume on top with sack dresses and trapeze silhouettes.
  3. Bootcuts: this forever flattering denim style has become a classic. You’ll still look fab wearing a great pair of bootcuts if skinnies and wide-legs don’t tickle your fancy. Don’t believe what the magazines tell you, bootcuts aren’t out.

Pick and choose the jeans that work best for your body type and look. If you’re a denim girl at heart, you’ll enjoy the different moods that all 3 denim styles provide.

I love how fashion has evolved to allow for multiple options to be in fashion at any given time. I remember in the 80’s all you could buy were peg legged, high waisted jeans. Your only option were acid washed or dark rinsed. It seems that consumers now control more of what is available to purchase.

I love bootcuts. All my jeans are bootcut, including the new ones I bought last week. And finally there are mid-rise jeans out there! I might have to go jean shopping more often.

I recently bought two pairs of DKNY Soho jeans (one for heels and one for flats). I don’t think I can go back to low rise jeans now. They are my new favorites. My only complaint is that they run somewhat big and size 2 is the smallest size they offer so I have to wear them with a belt, but hey it’s still a huge step up from lovehandles and plumbers cracks.

Great Maya. You should consider having them altered at the waist instead. That way you can omit the look of a bulky belt.

I love how jeans have become more acceptable for so many occasions. They really are my favorite thing to wear whether it’s dressing them up or down. And it’s so great to find a pair that fits perfectly! I love the wide leg look. I’ve been looking for the right pair for me but haven’t found them yet. I think that style of pant though is quite flattering and I’m excited that it’s in style this season!

I love denim in all shapes and tapers. They have become such a staple in my closet. What I really love is the look of the low rise without the rear end exposure by wearing my hip-T. hip-T give that little extra coverage so I can sit and squat without showing my bum or undergarments. Don’t give away all that denim investment – check out http://www.myhip-T.com Cute site!
