Zara try-ons (and a note for rachylou)

I went to the mall to make a return and decided to take a quick look in Zara. Rachylou, look at Zara for some interesting sleeve details! I noticed you mentioned you were on the lookout for interesting sleeves.

I found myself drawn to these pieces and decided to try them on. I left them behind but am curious what you all think, whether they are worth a spot in my newly thinned-out closet. They're both unusual pieces but budget friendly. I don't have anything like these pieces. I'm not on a shopping ban, but I am slowing my roll, so I don't want to buy anything stupid.

First, the long crane print bomber. Yes, another jacket. But it's long, it suits my casual life and layers well, I love the print, and I am now a convert to long jackets. I like it a lot. More than I expected to. It fits when I zip it up but I doubt I would wear it that way. I love the red lining too.

Next, this mixed media white and black top. I like this on me more than I expected to. It kind of reminds me of something Approprio would make, which is very appealing to me. Oddly, it works better on my large chest than I expected.

What say you, YLF hive mind?

I like the idea of the white and black top, but don't fancy the bunching under your arm.

Angie, what looks like bunching is actually an intentionally gathered sleeve -- they gathered the fabric on bottom rather than the top (which I kind of like because I don't like traditional puffed sleeves!).

I love the jacket Janet.

The colour blocked curve is very flattering and unusual. I have issues with colour blocked items lying at the bottom of the washing basket, I never know which load it belongs to.

I need to say how right you are about the colour blocked top. It's giving me ideas. The jacket is fab too.

RT: I have that very problem with striped tees. They usually go in with the whites.

I love the jacket. It looks fantastic on you and fits in with your wardrobe. The top is very interesting and has Approprio written all over it. Somehow it looks bunchy in the pictures. IRL it might be different.

Love the jacket. I'm a little torn about the top. I agree that the gathers are awkward. I can tell that they're deliberate but still just kind of weird. I do like the cuffs though.

I'm torn on the top. I feel a bit like Robin. I can tell the gathers are deliberate but I'm not sure about them. Still, if the price is right, what's the harm in the experiment? A question, though -- would you wear with a topper, and if so, which one? Might be useful to experiment with that.

I love the long jacket but am ambivalent about the shirt. I like the color blocked front, but I don't really like the sleeves. I would have thought it wouldn't look good with a large bust, but it's great on you.

As for the shirt, I am guessing that it's the black detailing that caught your eye and fits your mod, unique aesthetic. I feel like it doesn't really mesh with the sleeves....it's a strange (not in a good way) juxtaposition. It's not way off, just not up to your usual awesome standards IMO.

I am a cautious yes on the jacket...I think it is a fun layering piece and certainly fits in well with maximal dressing. The fabric weight looks perfect for my climate - not sure about yours.

I am a cautious no on the top. I want to like it, but I feel it would be very hard to wear, and I am not sure if the white fabric flows enough. I struggle with tops that end like this too at the hem.

I very much like the jacket, especially the longer length on a bomber style.

The top I saw the same way as Angie. I did not realize the gathers were intentional, and it looks more like it is bunching and ill-fitting. Despite the gathering being intentional, I wonder how many people could tell that while it was being worn and would instead think the same as I did when I first saw it. I love the idea of the top, but not the execution on this one.

Am I being a pill by throwing a cautious voice out there for both pieces? I love a bomber as much as the next person , and I bought a long one too, which I have worn a few times and am never quite sure I like it. I may be projecting my own unease to this one though. There is a lot going on with the print, the red lining and the striped band, which I know is all trend and such, but it doesn't have a real luxe look to it somehow. I dunno. Maybe I should be quiet. And I can't say I am a huge fan of the top. It's interesting, but doesn't look "right" , as mentioned by others, and I wonder how easy it would be to wear without having to adjust and fiddle with the black part. I've seen you look so fantastic in so many things, and neither of these are giving me that vibe.

Well, it's been 24 hours and I've had a few things going on today, including errands that took me right by the mall. I actually sat outside of the bank (where I had some business), and thought about going back in to buy one or both of those items. But I just didn't feel that motivated. I went for a run instead.

So we'll see if the urge hits me over the next couple of days. I'm not feeling like I MUST have them. Which is in a way liberating. I'll keep you posted.

I like the bomber but am not wowed by it. The top actually intrigues me more. I really like the black piece. The sleeves do concern me especially if they are that Zara "poplin" that seems to wrinkle from the wind.
