Zara in NYC so much more interesting than Zara in Seattle

Just an observation as I visit NYC this week. The Zara in SoHo carries far more interesting stuff than the one in Seattle, which I was browsing through last week and found rather boring. Do chain store inventories really vary that much by location?

When I went there they had a dj in the one in Times Square. It was so much fun I'm from Chicago but That one was so different in a good way.

Yep, I had the same experience. I visited my daughter in NYC, and when we stopped by the Zara there, I was in love with 90 percent of the store. So when I heard a store was opening here in Seattle, I was thrilled. But visiting opening week was such a disappointment- very little to excited about. Maybe it will improve with time.

I noticed a difference between Hong Kong Zara and the ones in Canada - but not in the items you'd think: they still had the winter jackets in HK!

Some do, some don't. It depends on the philosophy and strategy of the brand. But Zaza has built its brand on building stores that fit the location. Walmart does the same.

I visited Zara in Seattle the day it opened. One of the SA's expressed amazement that I'd even heard of them...seemed surprised that I'd bought anything online. Maybe they don't have very high expectations for Seattle.

To my knowledge, Nordies has always stocked different merchandise in different locations even in the same general geographic location.

Yes, stock will absolutely differ across locations. In Spain, Zara stock will differ enormously a few roads apart. Same in Paris and Amsterdam. The Zaras in HK are usually very well stocked and look amazing.

Actually, I've found the Zaras in NYC quite poorly stocked most of the time - and I don't mean to sound contrarian. I think twice about going into them at this stage. The Zara in Seattle has been brilliant in my book. I go a few times a week and am impressed. Always neat and newly stocked. Lots of interesting stuff. Sizes in the back room, and very helpful sales assistants. Clients are for the most part loving it too. So I guess opinions differ about the Seattle Zara.

Thanks for your observations, Angie! Yes, I found the layout and general ambience of the Seattle Zara better than that of the SoHo Zara. But the garments in the SoHo store appealed more to my taste. So different strokes for different folks!

I travel a lot and have seen the same things I bought in a Paris Zara at South Coast Plaza in Southern California when I got back home. I think their inventory changes so often that you may THINK it's completely different stuff. I am willing to bet that if you went to Zara on Thursday in Seattle and then to Zara in NYC on Friday you would see a lot of the same stuff. Maybe more black in New York.

I visit Zaras whenever I travel just to check this. Even where I live, the five or so Zaras in nearby radius have very different things.
