I never really had to use 1-day shipping. That said, they recently sent me an invitation to create a VIP account that provides free 1-day shipping. Apparently, anyone can become a VIP. https://secure-vip.zappos.com/vipSignIn.do

I'm not surprised they've had to change their policy. Fast shipping is expensive. I'm happy they are still offering free shipping, even though it will take longer.

huh..I just ordered something yesterday and got a comfirmation email that I will be getting it tomorrow. That's pretty fast considering that I live in HI!

I love Zappos for so many reasons, and I'm going to give them some slack here. They are so friendly and accessible and I'm willing to wait a bit longer, because of the free shipping and returns and the ease of doing business with them.

I realized this when trying to order something around Thanksgiving. Given the economy they said they had to choose between upholding their excellent customer service or the free overnight shipping. I am glad they decided to retain their customer care quality. I got a free VIP membership from Zappos and thought the inventory is slightly limited VIP members always get free overnight shipping. They send these invitations out regularly I think.

Interesting. I'm also a VIP member and my most recent order (ordered on a Friday) arrived in one business day (Monday). It doesn't really matter to me if it's one day or 2-3. They're still faster than almost anyone else.

I'm glad Zappos is still offering free shipping, even though it won't be as fast. The decision makes sense economically. Wonder how long the free 1-day shipping for VIP members will last? I'm a VIP member and I ordered shoes this past Sunday night and got them on Tuesday morning. Even if they eventually have to stop offering the VIP service, I'll still buy from Zappos because they've been so great to deal with over the years.

Echoing Vicki and others - after dealing with S-L-O-W and cumbersome returns to other companies this am, it's clear that Zappos provides amazing service. I've only bought there once because I can usually find a better deal, but now that I've been ordering more, I see that the free, fast, easy returns/exchanges are worth it. No idea how they kept up the 1-day shipping for as long as they did!
