Zappos accounts hacked- change your password

Apparently Zappos has suffered a security breach, with hackers accessing millions of customers' account data. They're recommending that all customers change their passwords.

Great, isn't Zappos owned by Amazon ? My two accounts link up as one. Lovely.

ETA : I just double checked, yes Amazon owns Zappos and they share databases. So if someone got your Zappos info they could access your Amazon account. I do TONS of shopping with Amazon.

In addition to the Zappos.com email, I also got an email from 6pm.com.

I did not get an Amazon email.

I know there's a direct connection between Amazon.com and Endless.com. I also know that 6pm.com is the clearance site for Zappos.com. But I wasn't aware of the Amazon-Zappos database connection.

This would be huge IF Amazon databases were involved and they're not notifying anyone. . . .

I am not really worried about Amazon account, at least for now (well, I am not too worried about Zappos, either, since the credit card numbers were not stolen). Zappos is owned by Amazon but this does not mean their databases are in any way connected.

Hi Makrame, when I set up my Zappos account, I connected it to my Amazon account. I was given that option at the time. So at least for me, the two are hooked up. I am going to change my info on 6.pm...better safe than sorry. The hackers did get names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and so on. So if someone contacts us asking for info saying that they are from one of these places, we shouldn't respond.

Truthfully, we are only responsible for the first $50 on the credit cards and everyone is aware now, but it is all of my personal info that could be out there right now. The possibility of identity fraud scares me. I can't remember if I gave out demographic info like my birth date.....yuck !

Steph, thanks ! What a novel idea, quote the company ! LOL !!! I didn't get a notice from 6 pm, but this is part of the one that I got from Zappos,

"We also recommend that you change your password on any other web site where you use the same or a similar password."

( I actually lost my credit card TWICE in one week recently. The company replaced and 14 hours later the new one was gone too !! Who needs hackers...I give my credit card info away for free with no work ! ROFL ! )

Thanks for the info! I received emails from both Zappos and 6pm.com, which I believe is linked to Zappos, I changed my passwords as quickly as possible. I didn't know about the link to Amazon, but I guess I'll change that password as well, just to be on the safe side.

BTW, has anyone else had a problem with PayPal? Someone hacked into my PayPal account a few months ago. I was so upset by the lengthy time PayPal took (over 2 weeks!) to straighten the problem out that I closed my account.
