Your take on this line of bags?

The Maruca bag is ubiquitous where I live. So much so that I'm having trouble seeing it objectively. What do you think? Do you see it as versatile (can work with many different styles)? Or does is signal something specific to you style-wise? Doesn't matter to me whether you like it or not. But I'd love to hear what words/ideas/styles it evokes for you.

My first impression is that it mostly signals something specific to me -- I'd expect to see it worn with other signifiers of crunchy granola across a gamut of ages (not that there is anything wrong with that). I could see it working with a boho/world market look as well though, and some bags like the magenta one possibly with more hectic pattern mixed 'fashiony' outfits.

agreeing with rabbit---it reads very crunchy granola to me....but that's not to say that it couldn't or wouldn't work with other styles. if your everyday style ran towards minimalist columns of color I could see the bags adding interest

I get the boho vibe from these too, but I think paired with outfits that are not too overtly boho, it could avoid granola territory. The shape of the first two definitely carry more of that boho vibe. The baguette shape or satchel style might get away from that territory more.

I see granola too. There's a certain kind of dresser who can wear bags like this (students, or crunchy adults ) but they strike me as supremely casual and fun and summery. All of which is fine if that's the look you are going for.

Diff between granola and boho? Boho can go really luxe - or really casual and easy, but it's more about a silhouette and colour and use of certain fabrics or skins. Granola has more of a hand-made, thou-shalt-not-be-massed-produced look to it.

In my head granola is more about ethics and practicality, where boho is more of a broad style lane.

So granola (as worn by my family) would tend to be a fair-trade cross-body pouch with crocs or clogs or tevas and maybe a fleece pullover jacket. Could be peasant skirts, jeans or leggings, or vegetable dyed jersey skirts from yoga gear companies. Environmental tee shirts, you get the picture.

boho could be more festival wear on younger people, or Santa Fe/desert/beach wear on people of all ages. Or have strong retro late 60's-70's elements or global village elements. More about an overall romanticized look even though it's quite a large category.

I could be totally off though, so grain of salt.

The last one, the pink one, seems the most versatile, style wise, imo.
It's the fabrics, I think, that make them boho/granola/earthy. I don't think these are versatile, no, but now that I think about it, what bag is versatile style-wise? I guess maybe bucket bags and leather totes?

They seem like a kind of ethnic boho to me, and also remind me a bit of the Bermuda bags from the 70s because of the fabric. But those were uber-preppy.

This has been interesting, people. Thank you! I am a buy-one-bag-and wear-it-out kind of person and Maruca has been my go-to for years because they're easy to get where I live. While there's a lot I love about their fabrics and shapes (and I'm on the cusp of choosing a new one) I am also open to finding something new. FWIW, I connect very much with fabric bags, romantic/vintage and softness. Crunchy? Not so much. And I don't like structured/hard leather bags with metal accents.

Ideas? Let me know.

I might sound like a broken record but I'll recommend looking at moop bags who make waxed canvas numbers. I keep recommending them because I want the market bag for myself
Their backpacks are kind of cool too. Actually, what am I saying, I like them all.

ETA: ...but I like the ones you've shown. My faves are the 'millie lu' and the pink one.

I think those Maruca designs are cute bags. It's kind of a little fun and whimsical statement.
I agree with Smittie--the Moop bags look really cool, especially the Market bag that she is eyeing. They look more versatile, being in solid colors.

I am late to the party, but I confirm they look boho. #1, 2 and 4 are the style I'd wear in the summer to the market or during weekends.
#3 could be worn, IMO, with different clothing styles, as long as the colors don't clash too much. I think it'd look good with a monochromatic outfit.
And I really enjoyed reading the definitions of granola and boho.

For the bottom left bag, I get the Boho meets Missoni vibe. So BoBo?

Granola in my neck of the woods means you use the Crystal Rock for deodorant. Boho, you still get to go to CVS. Boho, your patchwork you bought at H&M or the ethnic store. Granola, you made your own patchwork from the curtains that used to hang in your VW bus or bought it from a woman who put 5 things on a blanket on the sidewalk for sale. She'll be weaving weeds into wreaths for your hair, while watching her store there...

ETA: Don't be laughing at my peeps... It's a spiritual way of life.
