Your opinion please, oh wise ones

So....I've been looking at this for several days now. I like that it is silk. I like that it is not floral. I like that it is not super long. I think I like the color.

What say you? Can I make this work or do you see this as not me? Is it worth a try?

Of course! Wear it with a tank and your cropped harems, for one. I think it's gorgeous, too.

I'm going to be honest. I have knit shrug like things like that and they never get worn because they are forever falling off my shoulders and need lots of adjusting. That being said, if you are looking for a little drama to throw on over a tank with a pencil or harems (while carrying a clutch,) I think you will enjoy it. I just don't find them all that practical for my day to day. Just my 2 cents

It is pretty dramatic so I guess it depends on how you feel about that. For me things that are dramatic I have to factor in that I will likely only wear them on a few occasions a year. I have to say I'm really not sure about this one for you.

And to Kellygirl's point, the silk will be slippery,I think. I admire women who can rock these type of dramatic items. I love to see them. I finally know myself well enough to not even try.

You might start by imagining upcoming events where you would enjoy wearing it.

This would definitely be a wildcard item for me, both in terms of style and that it would probably be just an occasional piece...I tend to buy things that are more functional. But that might be ok. Though the fussiness factor is a good point.

It's sort of kimono like -- the second one especially. It would be a good evening topper for warm weather if you have fancy events to attend. I would worry about the slip factor, also. But worth a try. You can send it back, right?

Agh! The print on the back of the empty highway in the fall forest, it's beautiful. (I wonder if it's based on that abandoned highway in the south? It's called 'the road to nowhere' hmm....)

I like it as a piece of art, and I like that if it doesn't work out as a dramatic shrug/kimono thing you can wear it as a scarf. But I think testing it out and trying to figure out if you like it enough for the price would be key, what it does it do for outfits you would wear it with and also the delicacy issues --- can you sit on the hem in back, etc. Looks like the same print is also on a t-shirt.

Both of these are quite pretty. Esp. as to the former: Have you ever worn a large scarf that way, i.e. tied at the corners? Boho luxe?

I knew that I needed the collective wisdom of the group. I hadn't really thought about the slipperiness. I have tried a few on but they were poly or chiffon not silk.

Rabbit, I think I really love the print...yet it doesn't appeal to me on the tee shirt at all. The delicacy question is a good one too.

Suz, I thought it would be nice for dressy but I think I would like it equally well with black skinnies. Do you see it as dressy only?

Donna, I've not. I don't even own a large scarf.

Hmmm, with the ones I've tried locally, I keep comparing them to this (the first one) and I've not loved any enough to buy one. Maybe I should order them to try?

Susie - hath not Angie recommended picking a wildcard? Why not try it on? You honestly won't know until you see it in person, but I think the right piece could be stunning and go casual and formal!! I have always admired the ones Alexander McQueen shows. I think it's awesome!!

My older daughter has a silk kimono topper that she wears casually and I love it. I think it's worth trying. Yay for wildcards!

I'm sitting here typing this while wearing a pair of floral harem pants that I bought for vacation. Totally a wildcard. Not a long-term purchase, will be handing off to DD soon, but I am loving them at this particular moment.

That would be fun to try! I think you should give it a whirl (either one)! Don't you have a silk kimono on your list of things to buy? I love that you can wear it as a scarf. And not all silks are slippery. It's hard to tell from the picture if it's a sanded silk or shiny charmeuse. It could end up being a very special statement piece, especially if you have a lot of plain solid clothing. And I think it could be worn very simply with a tank a jeans. The kimono will dress them up for sure, but not so much that it would read "formal". I think you just needed to order one or both and have a good play with them to decide.
