Your opinion on this Nicole Miller gown?

It has that shoulder/back design that I loved on the Ann Taylor dress too, but I can't decide if the shirring looks deliberate or just ill-fitting, especially around the butt area.

As much as I normally adore Nicole Miller, the shirring does kind of look like dress-ride-up, at least in those photos. :T

Sometimes what you want and what you try on are two different things. You won't know until you try these dresses on.

I'm not a fan of this dress for some reason. Maybe it is the shearing.

Diana, my first reaction is that you should just try the dress on and see how it looks.

On the other hand, if you're feeling "funny" about the shirring by just looking at the photo maybe that's a sign to let this dress go.

I would be highly suspicious--the shirring doesn't look deliberate enough. What about the gorgeous lace dress you posted awhile back where there was much discussion of the sleeves. Did you try that one?

Aside from the shirring, I think the dress comes across as a debutante style dress rather than a wedding dress. I'm not sure why exactly. I think it's the top of the back view, where the lace edging doesn't look quite right.

I do love Zappo's though. I just got the boots (Melissa Button boots) I've been wanting for months!

Alot of Nicole Miller's dresses have this back shirring. It is verrrrr nice if you want to accentuate your rear view like I do! There is a problem with all of her clothes though. Her fit models are 5'11". Seriously!! So everything is waaaaaayyyyy too long. And I don't mean just the length, which can be easily tailored. All of her clothes are just proportioned wrong for anyone who is not uber tall. I would pass on this one just based on that!

Wedding dresses are tricky. What you think looks good in a magazine or what looks good on someone else is not necessarily going to look good on you. I would go to a real store and try on some gowns, even if you end up having to pay a little more for it, at least you will get to try it in real life.

Oh, good, It's not just me then. There are some positive reviews online of a similar Nicole Miller dress (basically this style but strapless) and not one of them mentions the butt shirring, so I was wondering if I was just crazy to think it looked weird. At least that's one off my list.

Scarlet, the lace Ann Taylor dress is still on my list. I want to see if they come up with a 40% sale code at some point - wedding won't be until May, so I figure I have until Dec/Jan to find a dress, even if it needs to be tailored. I'm likely not going to get a made to order style, so I don't need as much head time.

Rita, my rear view is perfectly sufficient (or more than sufficient, LOL!) by itself. I definitely don't want to enhance it!

I have a lot of ideas of what I DON'T want in a dress (strapless, spaghetti straps, giant train, huge skirt that looks like a cake, anything that looks feathery or hairy, etc) but not quite sure what I DO want yet!
