Hello all. I succumbed to temptation and ordered this navy linen shirt. I have one the same in a light blue, and it’s a fantastic quality, flattering piece. Hopefully the navy is good too.
I wondered if we could chat re: favorite navy colour combos? General ideas for styling navy? How do people like to wear it. Fwiw, I like navy with maroon. Thanks for any ideas.
Sometimes I struggle with feeling like I look like I’m wearing a uniform or a sailor suit in navy, especially navy pants. I love the colour itself though.

I like navy with black and experimented with that combo lots last year. A y is my dark neutral in spring and some of summer and I like it with green, pink/ coral and aqua. I have a similar navy linen shirt that gets used as a swim suit cover up or worn with white pants most. You might look for a silk sleeveless top with navy in a print to wear under it.

Navy is such a versatile colour, it literally goes with every other colour and shade. It will look fab with all your favourite Care Bears colours. I love it with light grey, bright green, pink, red, white, olive khaki, black.

I wear navy with anything! In Summer I wear it with a LOT of white. Also throw in my brights, light blue and blush pink.

My personal preference with navy is to combine with any other neutrals ... It looks particularly great to me eye with white/cream, beiges, tan, camel and cognac ... Any of which would be fab of you Jussie. But of course, black, gray, olive, blush, burgundy etc work beautifully too. I agree with others that it technically works with anything, so it's a matter of playing around to find out which combos you feel best with!

I wear navy with all my other colors: black, whites & cream, taupe, blue, olive, teal. What I don’t wear with navy is another navy unless they match. I know others make nice combinations of the different shades of navy in one outfit but I don’t like it.

Maroon plus navy is a bit too heavy for my taste but it might look beautiful.

I am with Angie, navy is my black. I like it with white, faded jeans, grey jeans and olive/khaki cargos.
It looks like it could go with the skirt you posted recently.
I am just starting to pair it with black (due to my up brining of no navy/black combo) and really like it.
I could see it with maroon bottoms as well.
It will look lovely on you.

Navy and white/cream are just a natural easy combo, navy and grey is a classic. I also love navy with olive green. I don’t wear a lot of pastels, but navy with pastels also a great combo. Here in the states, orange and black are very Halloween, but navy and orange is just fab. Lately I’ve been reading about navy with brown which i do with accessories, but not clothing. And i love navy with navy, but it takes some work to get this right

While I have a very small amount of black, I much prefer navy. I like wearing it with grey. I also think it really looks great with caramels and light browns.

Navy is probably the most important color in my wardrobe, and I wear it with all shades of denim, white and black... and of course other navy pieces. I often add a touch of red or bright green to spice things up.

I love navy paired with warmer colours, especially olive or any shade of brown, especially rusty browns. Helps mitigate the "uniform" vibe. Also beautiful with light wash or white denim for a classic crisp summer vibe. I also find navy works wonderfully with prints and patterns; it's a good "bridge" colour and seems to have a way of tying things together. This looks like it will be a lovely, versatile shirt for you!

I honestly never realized navy is so versatile. I do have a navy sweater I wear under a blush pink coat which works nicely.
Another good one I have in a dress is navy and mustard.

Like Angie, navy and ink are my black -- I wear them with everything!

Favourite combos include my other key neutrals: white, grey (esp. light grey), black, and cognac (which I only really wear as accessories, but which looks rich with navy.) Silver and gold and rose gold all look great with navy.

I don't wear tan or camel, but it looks great with navy. So does taupe (which I do wear, but less often than the other neutrals mentioned.)

Colours I mix with navy include almost all other blues; burgundy, raspberry, mulberry (really, all berry tones); fire engine red and blue-reds; plums, mauves, lilac and lavender, pinks of all kinds, from blush to fuchsia; green (esp. forest green, kelly green or citron -- not all of which I wear but all of which look great with navy); golds/ yellows/ mustards (I only wear as accessories but they are opposite on colour wheel so lively with navy; orange (ditto).

I think you are getting the picture! There is NOTHING I wouldn't wear with navy, really.

Suz it’s great to read about your navy combos. You mentioned navy with gold or silver…. This excites me! Navy with metallic wardrobe items. I must try that asap.
If only I had some metallic trousers…. A long time ago I had a pair of gold metallic coated jeans, I wish I had kept them. They were the wrong size though alas.

Navy + red + white is a classic combo and looks great, but might easily be associated with flags/patriotism/nationalism or uniforms. I prefer wearing navy with various other blue colours or with colours like pink, purple and turquoise.

Yes, navy with neutrals: white, browns, black or also colors: green, yellow or pink! Basically everything!

Navy is a beautiful color, but I have found it to be almost as tricky as black for me! It is a very "demanding" color, it easily washes out my complexion. Overpowers me. Some of my favourite combinations with navy (on others) are with white or mustard, as others have already mentioned.

I’m glad Suz has responded, as she wears navy so well. I also like navy with other shades of blue, such as navy and cobalt. I wear navy in a similar way to black. I think your new shirt will be a winner.

On the issue of overwhelm -- there are different navies, and someone whose dominant characteristic is "light" might do better with a bright navy than with ink (for tops, at least).

If navy feels too uniform-like then I suggest similar tricks to those adopted by veteran wearers of black (esp. all black), e.g.

Add a colour or a light neutral, e.g. break it up.
Break up the texture, play with texture, include something rough and some shine. (Esp, in all navy outfits).
Ensure the outfit has enough structure (i.e. visible bone structure/ skin).
Juxtapose navy trousers or jacket with denim both to lighten it up, vary the texture, and nix the uniform associations.

Suz; great pieces of advice. I like the idea of using some rough denim with navy, this would reduce the uniform-y look, and be very simple to implement.
And metallics of course... metallic elements would def bring down the chance of my new shirt looking like a post office uniform!
I’m thinking some bright bangles or cuffs could help too…not that I have any

With my coloring, navy is problematic, so I just wear it with browns. Or denim with black. I'm too warm toned to consider navy as a neutral! It would definitely be more harmonious and easier to pair on you. Suz nailed it!

I like navy but I use it as a color in my wardrobe - meaning I mix it with all neutrals but very few other colors. Love it with cream, gray, camel, and of course it is classic with white. I like some contrast so don't wear with black.

Good question! It's fun to read all these answers. I really like navy with denim in light blue or white, and cognac accessories and footwear.

And your comment made me think, just avoid wearing wing-shaped pins--haha! (To avoid the flight attendant uniform look.)

I didn’t post my first thought, because was afraid it sounded like I was brushing this question off, but reading the comments just reinforces it, so here goes. Navy is a neutral and can be worn with anything and everything. Mind-blowing, isn’t it? I’m on a pastels kick, and recently paired my navy cords with a pale blue T-neck and pink background, but that’s me with my penchant for bringing together opposites. YMMV.
