I've been trying to find a taupe colored leather jacket for months now, and one finally cropped up at gap.com and I decided to wait a day and it sold out! In one day!
It's the one on the top left here

Has anyone seen anything similar? Nordstrom has a Kenneth Cole one that's close, but it's rather plain for my taste.

oh no! Maybe some people will return it... Was it available in stores too, or just online? If it was in stores, maybe some haven't sold out?

Thanks girls! I need a S typically and anywhere up to $300. It's going to be my birthday prezzie.
BR had one in their Heritage collection but it was never available online and my store gave me a list of stores that had it, but I called each of them and they all said they only showed one store who had it - mine! And mine said they never get Heritage items.
Anyway.

Not till next month, lol. I should have just grabbed the Gap one since it was on sale, but oh well. I called my Gap store and they don't have it. They said most stores didn't get it.

Want me to check at our Gap? We have a lot of stuff that sells out because Alaska is so behind on trends. I can usually find things at our Nordie's this way too.

call 1800gapstyle. it's a centralized listing of all merch across the us stores. i just tried to see if i could help you out, BUT she couldn't find it without the item number.

perhaps you can get it from your local store?

Even if you don't have the style number you can still call and describe it, they have a 'look book' and if you describe it really well they will be able to find it. Make sure you get the style number and then have them do a store search (but make sure they actually give you the style number!!). If they don't find it in any stores, don't give up but call back in a few days. People return online things to stores a lot and it might pop back up on the website. But the style number is the holy graille.

On an entirely different topic, it is fascinating to me that in this recession a $300 jacket can sell out that fast! Very interesting.

And Marshalls had a faux one in this color for $29 recently...

Great advice, thank you! The jacket was 30% off, so that could be why it sold out so fast! Plus, with the recession, I've been spending maybe the same amount, but being a lot more careful with what (and how much) I buy. An investment piece makes almost more sense now.

Sarah, I hope you understand I wasn't in any way implying you shouldn't get that jacket, I hope you find it and nab it. I'm just observing that a higher priced item at the Gap selling out that fast strikes me as unusual given the economic climate we are in. However, I bet you've figured out why - people are choosing more carefully, I know that I am. I've had it with cheap and I'd rather just do without than have something crappy that falls apart.

For that reason, unlike years past, I"ve done very little Old Navy shopping this year. Mostly because all my winter stuff there from last year (several coats!) have not lasted well at all. Another example for me personally is that I would really like a new purse, and was looking at TJ Maxx. I can get a very impressive knock off for about $60 but I'm just going to hold out until I can spend $200 to get the real deal that will last a lot longer....novel concluded.
