I spend a lot of time on this site since iVillage is one of our clients. A lot of it is interesting but some of it is just downright offensive.

I didn't find any articles about her career or the fact that she is the fourth female Supreme Court justice in our nation's history...but I *did* find a montage of bad, unflattering, inappropriate haircuts?

I'm also amused they had to tell us that the first picture was her real hair. Gee, thanks for the heads up. The others all looked so natural and photorealistic I would have never guessed...

Sorry my rage knows no bounds when it comes to accomplished women being diminished this way...

It's frustrating that a woman's appearance seems to A) be everyone's business and B) be the thing people are most concerned about.

IIRC, didn't Hillary Clinton catch lots of flack for not being tiny and svelt? Arg.

Ever since I was 12 I can remember Hillary (not to mention Chelsea) get flack for simply existing.

I actually remember a very unflattering picture of her on the cover of Time or Newsweek (or one of those things) being used in my class as an example of how photography is manipulated to enhance the content. My teacher prefaced this by saying "No laughing or joking. This is serious." (or something to that effect) and clutching the cover to her chest so we couldn't see it until the reveal. When she flipped it over, I was underwhelmed. I was expecting something ghastly that made me flinch in terror. Instead it was just HC's face in closeup. Yes the makeup was bad. Yes the lighting was harsh. But it wasn't SOOO UNFATHOMABLY HIDEOUSLY UGLY.

I dont know - I don't think it's that bad. Sounds like Elena Kegan was having a laugh herself by saying she'd need a new hairstyle before going on tv. Nothing to get uptight over, if u ask me.

I think this article would have been okay if they'd actually tried some nice & flattering looks on her. Kegan did say she'd get a cut if she was selected. However, I think this article goes into poor taste b/c they put her in such awful hairDON'Ts. It seems like they were going to for the laugh rather than the suggestion.

I'm not so offended either, but I'm not easily offended. I believe it was Ms. Kagan herself that indicated she would need a new "do" if she were confirmed, so I believe the article is all in good fun. Oh, and to answer the question, yes, they state (jokingly) right in the title. They are some ghastly choices they propose, but nothing worth stroking out over, it's just hair.

Besides, it's iVillage, not NPR, right? Take it with a grain of salt. . .
