You know whose compliments make me really smile?

The little girls at the elementary school where I have my office:) I'll take it where I can get it, but their comments are the sweetest.

I work with children through eighth grade and while the middle school kids are muuuch too cool to notice anything beyond their peers, the elementary age children have more to say.

It's too cute when you pass two 7 year olds walking down the hall and they whisper (indoor voice, of course, LOL) "I like your shoes."

So cute!! I have to say that I feel the same way in my building. There are some kids there and it always makes me happy when they give compliments! So sweet.

That's too cute!!
I had to share this anecdote after reading your post. I went to a wedding last weekend where the bride's niece stole the show with your cuteness. The girl is four and was wearing a cute little white dress. She begged to be allowed to make a speech, so Jessica said she could tell people where to get the wedding cake. The little girl does this, then says "if you get married, don't wear a long dress like Jessica, wear a short dress like mine."

omg Michelle.. that is a scream!
I taught 1st grade before I retired to raise babies, and there was nothing sweeter than getting compliments from those little girls. This was back in the days of pantyhose and I vividly remember little girls running their hands over my legs while sitting on the floor for story time.

Beth, cork, how apropos! while I don't have a hilarious story to share like Michelle (too too funny, Michelle), I will tell you that I have a 10 year-old neice who already loves fashion and is always just showering her Auntie Amanda with compliments--makes me feel like a million bucks!

Amanda, I have a 10 year old nephew who has very distinct ideas about fashion. He's lovingly complimentary about most of what I wear, but won't come near me if I'm wearing a button front shirt or blouse. Cracks me up.

Ah bless them I have a couple of girls at work who are always throwing out compliments. One in particular is always saying ' you're gorgeous' and the other always has constructive compliments ' I prefer that dress with the denim leggings' ' have you got a red necklace which would look great with that' she's only 8 I see an Angie of the future! x

Beth -- I love those elementary-school-kid compliments as well. The one I heard twice this year: "I like your boots" (black suede slouch boots with a heel). Actually, that one gave me pause since it came from two different little girls who are worrisomely street-smart. Made me wonder if the boots might not be a little on the hoochie side...

I know what you're saying. I also work in a K-8 school. For me, it's my jr. high students more than the younger girls. "I like what you're wearing today." "Mrs. C you look nice." "I love your shoes." Those are all great greetings as my students come in for class. Honestly, I'll take any connection to them as I can get, even if it's a love of shoes. Jr. high kids are a tough age to teach!

Ha, April, that's the fashionista/psychologist dichotomy: one part of your brain registers the compliment and the other side starts thinking about what the child has been exposed to. :O

Those are a lot of cute stories. Unfortunately I have only been insulted by children, but to be fair it was a really bad hair cut and my neighbor was really beautiful. Since then I haven't been around kids too much, but that's not the reason, I swear

Oh lots of great stories!

My three kids are my immediate fashion cheering squad. My 11 year old will sometimes offer suggestions on color or fit (Ha-ha!), my 9 year old tends to like everything I wear and my 6 year old girl likes to rub my legs if I'm wearing tights or leggings. It's a hoot to come out of my room and have oohs and aahhs from them!

These all made me smile! I also teach 8th graders and enjoy their complements. I always have them do an end of the year evaluation of the class with suggestions for improvement, and one of the girls told me one of the positive things was I always did "good" with my outfits everyday! How cute!
