You guys were right - swimsuit shopping update

Just wrapped up my work trip to Austin and squeezed in some shopping while there (oh, who am I joking, I focused on shopping like a madwoman while not at work!). If you recall from an earlier thread, I needed (wanted) to upgrade my swim capsule before heading to Brazil.

You guys were right - even though I was focused (read: a bit obsessed) with finding a two piece bathing suit, I ended up with two different one-piece suits that make me feel fab and sexy.

The first is a bright coral, pink, brown and black INC number with some animal print.

For this one I got a tan coverup for over the top. Usually that color looks terrible on me but I suppose the bit of the bright suit peeking out from underneath gives enough color near the face to mitigate the SSB tendencies.

The second is this exact shape but just in plain turqouise (not printed as shown):

I also picked up 2 other cover ups, one of which I had my eye on but it sold out online, so I pounced when I saw it on the rack at Macy's - prob my fave coverup that I bought, plan on wearing it with my old black suit underneath:

The moral of this story is that I found what I wanted by being open minded and not narrowing my search too much. I found NO 2 piece bathing suits that were along the lines of what I had in mind in stores, I would have had to order online and I wasn't willing to go to that length.

I am super happy with what I ended up with and though a bit nerve-racking, it was fun leaving it up to chance and what I could find in B&M stores rather than going crazy ordering online (you know the rejection rate of swimsuits so I didn't want to tie up a bunch of $ on my card just to return 99% of them).

Thanks YLF, you were right again! I specifically remember Zapotee suggesting a sexy one piece so I want to say thanks to her. I know I got other good advice from many of you ladies including much encouragement to find a suit that makes me feel fab and now I did, so thanks again.

That is so great - I really like what you bought. I am always thinking I can't wear a one piece because my top and bottom are vastly different sizes, but I'm thinking of giving them another try as it's been many many years since I've shopped for one and surely the fits must have changed. Worth a try anyway.

Linda, it's funny, I think it is all in finding the cut that suits you best. For me, for some unknown reason (maybe someone can weigh in here), the bandeau top one pieces seem to fit better than the ones with the more traditional scoop / tank top. I much prefer the back view of the bandeau suits as well. I am not a fan of the big scoop back, for some reason I feel like it is not flattering, at least not on my body shape.

I would say if you are interested in a new suit, go try on as many different shapes as you can and narrow it down from there. That's what seemed to work for me. I think I tried on at least 12 and walked away with 2. Also, if you are a pear (which I might be, not 100% sure) I found that many of the tops include pads that can be removed, so that helps the fit if you are smaller up top.

Thanks, Ceit! I am really excited. I figure with the weather being winter I would be wise to focus on coordinating cover ups as well as the actual suits, as the water time might be limited. The hotel in Rio has a heated pool so perhaps they will see the water, but at any rate, I wanted to be prepared either way.

I know, Rachy, when I saw it I got that excited yet restrained pitter patter heartbeat, it was my favorite of all and it actually fit! I think it is very Rio I feel like a weight has been lifted now that I got the swim capsule sorted out as well as the 2 pair of walking sandals. I am SO ready to go now!
