This is not in any of my shopping lists or annual plans BUT I don’t think I’ll regret purchasing it within 10 minutes of seeing it. A few years back, when belt bags became popular again, I often wished for a little one I had BITD. The newer models were often too big for my tastes and there was a clear trade off between quality and price, so I looked on in frustration.

This little baby looks just right. I don’t know its exact size, but it’s the “mini” version of one that’s 19x23 cm, so I think it will be just right for my iPhone SE, a couple cards, my keys with a folded up fabric bag on the keychain, and maybe a mask. That’s what I need to go out in warm weather. I don’t believe I’ve touched anything by this brand irl, but Anchie loved her white boots from them, and she sticks to good quality.

Remembering the shoes that got away a couple months ago because I hemmed and hawed and asked the forum, I jumped on this bag at 60% off.

What do ya’ll think?

PS 4th pic is JFF—Berlin got a leetel bit of snow yesterday, so some neighbor made this cute leeetel snow person.

I was so excited and want to like it so much, but I’m really not sure. What do you think?
It’s roomy enough to hold everything I need it to, but then it’s awkwardly big on my hip. (Please ignore the unkempt fitness paraphernalia around me). The strap is long enough to go around my waist one-and-a-half times. I think that’s so it can be carried over a shoulder, but the way the strap attaches to the bag (see original pix) makes that unworkable. When I tried it over one shoulder, it hung off my body awkwardly. Those shots are too dark to see color, but do show the outline of it, separated from my body. Maybe I’m not doing it right. Hmm. Am really not sure, would appreciate feedback.

I like it! Esp #1. You could get the belt shortened. It’s not visually too big.

Hmmm. I like the taupey brown colour, seems like it would work well with your berry tones (not loving it as much with black and white TBH, but it’s neutral enough and more than fine). However I feel the vibe is more ‘structured purse’ than ‘casual athleisure belt bag’. I would personally prefer it to be a cross body purse, which has similar functionality. And if I had a belt bag it would be more of an athletic gear style, I think, with a less stiff shape, and hanging a bit more loosely or angled. However
I have *no idea* what YOU were looking for in a belt bag, so these are just my impressions, which may not be helpful.

That said, my feeling is that if your gut says it’s off, don’t force it to work.

It looks very cute as a belt bag IMO, but I think Jules might be right about too much structure. How do you feel about taking it on/off? The strap looks like it would be too finicky for me, but I've probably been spoiled by the great big plastic buckle on my little nylon Patagonia fanny (pretty much the only bag I've used for the past 10 months).

In my experience if you have a lot of doubts they will continue to be felt. I have to force myself to use things sometimes that I *didn’t* have any doubts about, when I have them at home. So if there are doubts that fast, I would be wary. I know it’s hard when you have got excited

When wearing it as a crossbody, is the strap supposed to go through those loops under the flap?

Yes, that’s a lot of I’m not sure- s. When I ignore those and go stubs forward, I usually end up feeling bad about ghd item.
It does depend on what was / is your vision- if you really have something else in mind, then don’t let sales- googles and FOMO be in charge.
I don’t think it looks too big. However, echoing a poster above, I prefer small structured bags as long shoulder- strap hip or crossbody. Because they do otherwise “ stick out” . The strap length would not be a deal- breaker if you’re willing to pay cobbler for shortening.

Also double check your color palette plans. Taupe looks great with black, navy, burgundy, but I don’t prefer it with “ crisp” colors and crisp B&W. Taupe is potentially a good color for me, but I’ve always found it a bit hard to be versatile if I stray from its “ requirements “ And I think it’s harder with casual items and mix& match unless carefully curated ( these are in my “ eye”, of course.)

I think the way to wear your boxy bag bandolier style, is to have the strap go across the back with the pouch resting higher on your body - over your heart/chest - and if worn around your waist/hips for it to be in front like a sporran. To use it as a cross body or over the shoulder bag, you change the long strap placement by feeding it through the loops under the flap. I suspect a puffer or wool coat will affect where it sits as well.

That said, if you are getting negative vibes, it would be best to send it back. Most bum bags I see in use are of a soft slouchy style.in either leather, cordura or goretex (see mine in Finds). Vagabond is a very high qulity brand. I can see the bag is beautifully designed and will last you a life time! But do you love it? Is it boho enough for your style? What have you decided on?

Jules, good thoughts. I think I could deal with either its size or it being very structured if the other wasn’t also present. Another crossbody is not what I’m looking for; I already have small black Coach and cognac Nash crossbodies.

La Ped, I don’t think the belt buckle closure would bother me in the least, and I could always have it shortened, as unfrumped points out. But the other things...

Nemosmom and JenniNZ, I’ve gone both ways in the past. Sometimes I’ve gotten something I thought was perfunctory and grown to find it indispensable, but there have certainly also been times that the “little” thing that bugged me in the beginning means I never ever use the piece. Wish I knew how to tell which way this would fall.

Jenn, d’oh, how did I miss that? Rolling my eyes at myself, to make sure brain is still back there. So it will work much better as a crossbody than I realized—but I don’t think I need another crossbody.

Unfrumped, good thoughts about the color. Taupe is new to me, but I think it could be an easy add to my usual palette, with the possible exception you note.

Carla, I think you just nailed it with use of the phrase “bum bag”. No way am I interested in a bag on my butt. Besides not liking the way it looks, it would be impractical any time I sit down, and the biggest strike against a bag worn that way is that it practically begs beginning pick-pockets to give it a try. If by “sporran style” you mean centered in front, that’s a hard no for me. As much as I rail against asymmetrical clothing, I can’t picture feeling right about bouncing a bag off my belly.

Synne, I’m leaning towards no. This discussion has been helpful in nailing down my issues not just with it, but with belt bags in general. I really don’t like “bum bags” by any name. I have dug out the business card of a leather worker who sells his things at markets here. Markets have been closed for over a month (except for food) and will stay that way through Valentine’s Day. I wonder what he’d charge to make a little bag to wear on the side/front of one of the belts he sells.
