YO: Fake leather boots

What do we think of boots made of fake leather? Specifically, these, whcih have been in my wishlist for a while and just went on sale?

Is it possible to have good quality boots that are not real leather? And are these a good bet? I can't believe the original price for synthetic.

I vowed to myself never to wear faux leather shoes again... the foot sweat is not worth it to me. Same goes for synthetic lining. :T

I can't do pleather shoes either - same as Rae. Too hot and sweaty. Ick.

I've never bought fake leather shoes because your feet can't breath. I guess I sort of inherited this attitude from my mother who is very conscious about good natural materials for health of your skin (we both have very sensitive skin)

Hmmm in the minority so far. I have both real leather and fake leather boots. For me it's essentially about how they look (ie not cheap and tacky) and how comfortable they are. I don't seem to have the foot sweating problem so that doesn't factor in.

What can I say, you know I love the feel of real real everything but plastic shoes have their place too. My plastic boots have served me well in wet weather and slogging around at soccer and t-ball games. I am not against them, they can be practical at times. Consider them like rate motg gear. I think there is a place for them in your non-fantasy lifestyle.

I agree with Deborah. Though I don't have faux leather boots because I thought that I don't do well with it, I was shocked the other day to find that my now-favorite pair of shoes are synthetic.

Maybe if you get a couple of pairs of good wicking socks, the dampness won't be a problem. It is so hard to know ahead of time. Nowadays, there are wicking synthetics. Is there any way that you could find some reviews on this boot, first ?

I have a pair of Aerosoles riding boots that I wear in the winter that I love! I thought they were real leather til I started huntng down a duplicate. (Yes, I wear them that much.) Sweat factor is not so much of an issue in the cold...(Which I hear you have a lot of...LOL)

There is some very good quality fake leather out there these days and I wouldn't discount them just based on that. I had a pair of pleather boots that i wore for years and were super comfortable, durable and no one would have ever known they were fake.

I think they they're worth a try, especially if the price comes down. I wouldn't imagine your feet get much opportunity to sweat in Alaska. I like the style for you!

They look cool, but like many of the others, I don't wear fake leather shoes. Too hot and sweaty, plus it doesn't stretch like real leather so they don't break in the same way.

It isn't hot weather that makes the feet sweat, but the fact that there is no air circulation, especially with a boot that laces tight to the leg. It's like wrapping the foot in saran wrap... I'm just sayin'... foot fungus is not worth it...

Thanks for the input! I just realized that my foldover grey boots are pleather from Modcloth and I've never had a sweat issue with them. I was more concerned about quality and looks. It is good to know about everyone's concerns and will do some more research. I'm thinking that with our rainy summers (55 and pouring again today), pleather boots will not give me a nervous breakdown about ruining them.

Oh, good, Rita! I thought maybe you meant actual rain boots! I don't wear my grey ones as much any more, but they got two years of good hard wear and never gave me a problem. Lace-up boots might be different, as Rae said.

I have a pair of fake leather moto boots and don't have the foot sweat problem at all! I also have faux leather jackets that don't bother me. I really like the boots you posted the pic of. The little studs at the back of the heel are so cute!

While I normally wear leather shoes and boots, I have owned faux leather that was just as comfortable. They don't generally hold up as well, although with the discounted price that isn't as big an issue. I wore a pair of faux leather boots into the ground and was devastated that I couldn't find anything like them after they died, so they were well worth the money spent. These look like cute boots, and if you have been looking at them for a while, I think now is the time to try them!

Like Kim, I had a pair that I loved and wore to death and didn't realize weren't real leather. They're cute, they're you, and how far wrong can you go for the price? Do it!

I think both have their place, if your feet can handle the circulation issues. Personally, I have both leather and PU boots and will wear my synthetic boots in the worst, wettest, and dirtiest of situations because they actually stay dry and are easy to wipe clean. Having a couple synthetic casual boots is a HUGE help to me because of that!
