Y/N: trove leather jacket

Quick opinion on this jacket. It is leather with knit panels under the arm. Is this jacket something that is going to date quickly? It would be an inside jacket of course. TIA.

Oooh, I tried this on - it's very Helmut Lang and I thought it was sold out. I would keep it!

I think it will date quickly. Mixed media is popular right now, but I think it will look dated in a few years.

As such, I do not think this is a jacket that in 5 years will still be on trend. But that is just me.

Wait, knit panels are going to date? I think they are essential for the ITs, since they allow for more arm movement. I hope not, but I'm not clued in on such things.

Knit panels under the arms will make it super comfortable. Is that the only knit? What's on the front? I like it a lot, Kelly. I don't think it will date fast.

The knit panels under the arms keep leather jackets super sleek looking on the arm/shoulder fit but allow maximum movement and comfort, and allow for versatility in wearing (vent body heat while indoors, stretch for layering while outdoors). They serve a utility purpose and are much more than a stylish visual design feature that will go in or out of date.

Love it - and I don't think it will date quickly. I thought knit panels under arms were kind of a standard "thing" for us with broader shoulders or muscular arms! At least I hope they are!

It looks really nice on you, but to be honest I'm not a fan of this style of jacket and agree it may date quickly. But it's not dated yet and you may get a fair amount of use out of it, for a season or two

I also don't think that knit panels will date quickly, it's just something that is used to make jackets more comfortable. I love the style of this jacket, and I love it on you, Kelly. I vote keep!

It seems pretty classic in design but I'm no expert. I think it fits you really well and is a very nice jacket. If it fits into a wardrobe spot for you and it feels good on, I think I'd keep it. I love those flats too - are they new?

i like it and don't see why the knit panels would make it date easily. it looks good on you and it has a little bit of edge that i find very interesting. i would keep it.

Thanks! I'll chime in again later with more detail but I ended up buying it. To clarify, there are knit panels under the arms and knit trim along the neckline/front panels (1" or so.) it is very lightweight and so comfy. It fits like a glove. I was more concerned about the front panel shape--the mixed media aspect didn't even occur to me. I was at the rack so I BBQ'd and will return later if I have to. @inge and tex: the flats are "mix no. 6" via dsw. Picked them up a few months ago to try the smoking slipper trend:)

I really like this jacket Kelly - the fit is fantastic on you and it's got a great avant garde style to it. My Danier Leather black blazer has knit on the back of the sleeves and I love that - it keeps everything nice fitting and oh so comfy. Glad it came home with you!

I really love it! I don't think it will date quickly. In my VERY humble opinion, Avant-garde pieces have quite a bit of staying power since by definition they "march to the beat of their own drummer" rather than following trends to the letter.

The mixed media concept on this jacket is not gong to look dated in a few years. It's still all over the catwalks right now. I vote go for it! Jacket looks wonderful Kelly.

I LOVE it! I don't think mixed media is a particularly trendy thing right now, even if it is all over the catwalks, as Angie says. I'm not sure if I'm saying this right, but I feel things really date when they have become The Look of the Time, you know? It's not like everyone must have knit arm panels in their closets right now. To me it's just a practical and flattering design element - particularly on this jacket on you.
