YLF style challenge: Dress the decade

Are you up for another style challenge?

Here is what I am thinking. From today until Friday evening vote for your favorite style decade. You can vote for up to 5 favorite decades. I will tally the votes over the weekend and post the schedule. Starting on Monday, September 17th, each day, we will all dress up inspired by that particular fashion decade and post our outfits on a thread that I will start each day. We are not aiming for costumes here, just some inspiration, even if it comes in very small doses such as an accessory. It is all in good fun, so no need to panic, overthink, or worry. Participate when you want, as often as you want. The more the merrier...

Here are the contenders. I am relying on wikipedia here, so your visuals, suggestions, additions are welcome:

1) 20s:
straight lines, low waists, chemise dresses, cloche hats, voluminous trousers tucked into knee high boots

2) 30s: (1930-1942)
I am not quite sure about this myself, but it looks a bit more conservative and demure than the previous period: longer hemlines, skirts at natural waist, sharp shoulder and soft hairstyles. aka Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca.

3) 50s (1945-1960)
Pencil or full skirts with a lot of waist definition. skirts and sweaters, halter tops. Marilyn Monroe, Mad Men, etc.

4) 60s
Lots of possibilities here: Mini skirts, shift dresses, swing coats, bright colors, Jacqueline Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn:

5) 70s
Tie dye shirts, peasant blouses, flared jeans, hot pants, platform shoes but also maxi dresses and tie-neck blouses aka Charlie's Angels.

6) 80s
On the one hand oversized tops and boyfriend blazers, skinny pants, leggings, underwear as outerwear, Madonna at its best, on the other hand, power suits and shoulder pads

Ditsy floral skirts, DocMarten boots, spaghetti straps, low-waisted jeans, midriff but also minimalism

What happened to 40's? I vote for that if that's an option, and 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. I have no idea if I have clothes that would work for this challenge but it sounds like fun!

40s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. If the 40s is a no go then I'll go 30s since the early 40s is included in that decade.

I love the practical wartime suits women wore then, with powerful shoulders and sensible heels as well.

Rae we are the only two voting for the 90s!

I vote 30s, 40s, 50s, and 70s. The 20s and 60s were not good for curvy gals

I vote for 40's, 50's and 60's.

According to those articles, the beginning of the 40s (up to the end of WW2) was similar enough to 30s that they are lumped together. The second part of the 40s on the other hand, saw the beginning of fashion trends that would culminate in the 50s. So they are grouped together as well.

So if you've voted for the 40s, I will then count it as a vote for the 30s. Again, this is all for good fun, so feel free to be inspired by the 40s, when we do 30s, ok?

I think the 40s saw less churn in styles because folks were distracted by the war. It's a transitional era for sure!

I have a lot of fun looking at vintage sewing patterns (eg, http://sensibility.com/vintageimages). Look at the changes between the 20s and 30s, and compare that again with the changes between the 30s and 40s: the 40s definitely didn't see as much change.

Isn't it amazing how much more slowly fashions changed? Compare that with our modern day pace of change: minis! midis! maxis! all of them!
