I'm actually cheating because I was at home wearing loungewear all day - but here's my try at day #5 anyway.

I don't really have much red in my wardrobe, so I started the outfit with the skinnies and the belt. I knew that I'd feel better with a longer top and the dress was a great canvas to also use the belt. I layered the top under the dress to do some 'vertigo inducing' pattern mixing and add some white to the outfit. The black ballet flats were the obvious shoe choice. I'm not sure I would have worn this one out. It would have been too cold for the ballet flats anyway.

This is the easiest and the hardest day for me because today I post my outfit with my customary accessory. I think it is only the second time I have seen myself with it in pictures. The last stroke I had, six years ago, was in my cerebellum which affected my balance. Shortly thereafter I became a stick person. The stick is my constant companion although I do give it a rest around the house and when I am on familiar ground but I never leave home without it. It has even been my dance partner, on occasion. (Ha! I bring my own pole to the dance floor.) Most of all it allows me to get from point a to point b without ending up face first on the ground and I appreciate it for that.

This has been such a fun week and thank you Ornella for organizing it! And for me, this was the perfect poster to end the week with. We all have ‘balance’ issues in our lives and I believe we need to use the tools available no matter what they look or feel like.

deb :: I have a lump in my throat. The way you (and lyn67 too) brought to our attention your accessories' roles in your lives is a reflection of how truly amazing everyone here is - those who share their stories and those they share them with.

And I am even more in awe with your earlier submissions, because now I know it was quite a challenge (no pun intended) on those windy days for you to take WIWs. Thank you so much for taking part.
I just popped back to this thread for a proper look. Everyone's pictures are amazing. Such creativity and flair. I love how some of you have used film shots as well as the poster for inspiration.
BTW just for Joy and Suz, my new oxfords are by Clarks and they are called Bodkin Mill... and they rub my ankles, around my ankle bones

Joy :: I still remember how you started posting more during one of earlier challenges. Your style quotient really makes me dizzy. Re. the 'dagger' - it's just a hair pin with those few red stones. I can take the photo at the next opportunity, but you can see most of it on my photo as it is.

lyn67 :: hahaha, how clever - your vertigo photos Such pretty outfit (scarf almost-twins and layering denim jacket on top brought another dimension to it. I tried to translate the writings on your mug, btw, I never learnt much Hungarian (beyond counting and greetings), but it was fun trying to pronounce this all

Diane G :: our soft and gentle Ms. Vertigo. I really adore those jeans and the oxfords are beautiful.

Runcarla :: you certainly have the right dresses for this challenge.

Suz :: I have died and gone to heaven. This is such obvious and simple interpretation - yet noone tried it before you, and it's perfect. This is my kind of outfit 101%.

Angie :: <3

Firecracker :: wow, the office is on fire! I love it, it's brave and bold and absolutely amazing.

Diana :: your closet and mine are like fraternal twins for today's challenge. What a fabolous take on the poster and the pose is fun fun fun!

Una :: and you don't wear white more often because…? I love it all, but the jacket takes the cake.

Astrid :: love love love this. Great way to wear the skinnies and you know I adore that dress on you.

deb :: so pretty. Simple and polished, always a winner in my book.

Wow! This is just so interesting. You guys have given me a whole new appreciation for animal prints and graphic patterns. I sometimes restrict these things to a category I call "Contemporary," but today I'm feeling their history and aesthetic richness, if you will.

LANTANA - Your white blonde hair and bicycle - because of the spirals and because a bike is somewhat old fashioned - really capture it. I've been reading about Hitchock, modernity, and tensions with the past. And your whole look has it going too.
TRACEYLIZ - You (and everybody) are so smart to pick up on the spiral. It pretty much went right over my head, all those years ago. I definitely never heard of the Lissajous curve until yesterday. Or, well, never paid it any mind.
AMIABLE - You have the colors, the vertiginous patterns and swirls, but also - and this seals the deal for me - the Judy earrings!
JAYNE - Your colours are so beautiful. I love the way it's your jacket that's cherry red over the black and white. The red really dominates in the poster and your jacket does it here. Also the modish band of white at the waist, in the form of your belt, just right for Veritigo.
SHEVIA - Hats off to the nod to Jimmy. Can't forget Jimmy! The red flowers on the big field of white, also really nabs the poster and runs off with it.
INGUNN - The big fields of red, black, and white... captures and runs off with the poster in a totally different way. Amazing. This poster is schizo to have so many possibilities!
NATALIE - Hello! You win the prize for going all out! Madeleine and Judy and the legendary poster. I'm particularly impressed with the way your outfit evokes the poster and the vertigo with such a contemporary pattern, but I'm really endeared to your Judy. The chunky jewelry, the greens, the polka dots!!
CARO - You have been taking your vitamins this week. Keen, incredibly keen, your insight into the light over dark.
JJ - Brilliant contrast and use of pattern. Optical is the word for the patterns you used. Interesting to me, they're of the same decade as the movie, but they're "mod". Whereas all the costuming in the movie is conservative and old fashion. That brings us to some pseudo-intellectualism only my brother would be willing to listen to, but very Hitchcock my dear in dynamic! You've got in stills what Hitchcock did with the dolly cart.
ORNELLA - I love that you got the dizzying spirals with stripes!
JOY - Also incredibly cool, you did the dizzy with organic pattern, not graphic. Btw, you have a fabulous punk streak
LYN - Love love love. The red, white and black of the poster with the grey-skirt nod to Madeleine. Love! And you also used organic pattern to do the graphic. So neat.
DIANE - Lovely modishness! And you've also got the soft mistiness of the foggy SF landscape.
SUZ - Sneaking in the graphic with the organic (shoes). You guys are all so sharp on the uptake to do that. But the thing about your outfit is that your use of the red is minimal, but it stands up and shouts like the red of the poster.
FIRECRACKER - The "schizy" skirt cracks me up. Perfect. I love your splash of red over the two patterns. The pattern mixing is serendipitous and brilliant. I will bet, tho, you had very different thoughts about what you'd do with the pattern pieces when you bought them.
DIANA - You have all the elements and look so great. The hit-me-with-it red, the spirals, the polka dots! Your last "falling" pose is great. To me this is a really different look for you. It's interesting to see someone looking good in a style you don't associate with them.
UNA - You look fantastic. You're an "organic" vertigo-inducing pattern person. You don't have the large field of red, but your field of black makes the red in your skirt jump out. Different ways to make things go *pow.* Something for me to think about, lol.
ASTRID - Love. So cute. And you made it all bend the knee to your style!
DEB - Awesome colour. We should have done Rear Window too. Your stick would be the perfect prop there too. It's so cool that you included your stick. As a diabetic with a pump, I like to see what others do with their "accessories." Bionic nation! ;>

Hmm. Should I have made my commentary post into two, you think?

Ok. So, my brother is still emailing me about Metropolis. I don't have the heart to tell him we're moving on to Vertigo - which he'd also enjoy - but he is so into Metropolis. He's sent me a whole lot of photos. I might need to make a full on costume now.

Today's pseudo-intellectual comment: This has been a theme week. I mean, the movies share a common theme, the way the past and future make war on humanity. Wardrobe-wise, we've had a week divided between past and future fashion. Today is a classics day. I've discovered how rigid I am, how much of a traditionalist I am, when it comes to being classic. My staunch and stoic side comes out, and I don't appreciate creativity here when it comes to myself. Although, I am incurably RATE (which isn't classical).

Today's outfit: The little skirt suit (navy brocade, don't have a grey one), plus the turtle neck and plain black pointy pumps. Btw, does this suit look too big? It fits very comfortably at shoulders and waist, but it occurs to me it could use a nip-tuck still.

Alas I chickened out this morning when the top I envisioned and its fallback were both snug. I have definitely plumped in the last six months, not unlike a Ballpark frank. And as I truly believe comfort is my birthright, I had to give today's poster a farewell kiss. But, you ladies made me plonk all the way down the bell tower. Some faves:

Lantana - the bike was an inspirational flash of brilliance. You look nice in white, great bookending.

Jayne - not frumpy to my eyes, I really like it this combo. You can always tell when a gal is comfortable and feels great in an outfit by her big smile!

Shevia - super outfit! The hat is the crowning touch. I would also love to see it with red shoes, and maybe a rose in your teeth!

Ingunn - you never fail to look great! I am impressed by your crisp style.

GoldenPig - you are a creative little piglet, and I am wowed by your efforts this whole week. Multiple outfits each day, I swoon! And what a creative idea to take the two sides of the female character and do an outfit for each. The blue-green look is enchanting on you, so feminine yet bold with color. And your poster red-white-black look with the leggings has a nice dash of funky. Ok, and just please put that red flowered clutch in the mail to me ASAP, because I am lusting after it. The topstitching is a great touch. Sorry if I got any drool on this part of the post, my bad.

Caro, perhaps a little mad-scientist Rotwang spilled over from yesterday? I love your simple takes on the week's art.

JJ - your pointy toed shoes make the outfit, and I loved your first pose. Voila Vertigo, indeed!

Ornella - H@ H@! Gre@t use of the dizzying spiral sign, and here's the face I made in awe when I saw your post: @_@ Oh no, my sanity, my precious sanity! (PS, you look fab).

Joy - Yow! You nailed another one, girlie! Love the poses and confusion, and your outfit is sensational.

Firecracker - Bang! You look stunning in that shade of orange, and even though the mixed patterns make me dizzy I like the playfulness a lot. Great legs.

Diana - fun! I really like this look on you, a great silhouette for your pretty shapeliness. The laces, the circles, the trippy blurry photo, aaaah!

Deb - how gracefully you introduced your cane on this day of dizziness! Be proud of yourself, you look fab. I love your touch of grey fur too, you're both lovely girls.

Sona, that's the boldest pattern mixing I ever saw but it totally works! Nice.

A big thanks to all of you!

I love this movie. Everything about it, the casting, the story, the direction, the art and titles by Saul Bass. I especially love the music, that is the best part. Bernard Herrman was a genious, the best movie composer ever. He was a protege of Charles Ives. I downloaded the movie on Monday night and have watched it every night since. All told I think I have seen the movie over 30 times, but probably nodded off during it here and there, this is a compliment as movies are fantasy-world relaxation for me.

Hitchcock complained that the reason the movie wasn't a hit initially was that Jimmy Stewart was too old (at 50) to be convincing next to 25 year old Kim Novak. I actually find that this makes the movie more believable, because having an unreal obsession around a woman half your age is just the sort of thing that happens to 50 year old men.

I hope everyone watches the movie. It didn't really find financial or critical success until later, I think the psychological nature of the film was ahead of its time.

This isn't very inspired, the colors aren't right. But the dizzying effect of the stripes, further complicated by the trendy big cuffs on the skinny jeans, along with the vertiginous nature of my clunky 5" bootie sandals all fit with the movie, I think.

Deb - I love the addition of your stick, it totally fits with the second scene of the movie where Jimmy Stewart's cane and back brace are about to come off.

Great outfits from everyone!
I also like the way Natalie and RachyLou tied in with the strict grey suit Kim Novak wears in the beginning.
Rachylou :: ha, so this is what classic you look like. Quite a lady. And your brother, 'stuck in the past' - he deserves a medal! I actually laughed so loud that my son, who was drifting off to sleep, woke up.

Denise :: how can you say this is not inspired? The whole breakdown of your outfit screams the exact opposite. I've missed you on this challenge and am so glad you caught up with this poster.

Once again I will post now, add pics later.

With this poster I knew from day one, my only question would be: red pants/black sweater or black pants/red sweater? And which ones? (3/4 of my wardrobe) The red pants won out.

So, herewith: white shirt, black V neck sweater, red pants. Dizzy op-art black-and-white patterned scarf with red trim.

I planned on wearing my black booties, but then laid eyes on my new red ballet flats, a bargain-buy in red suede with red patent "measles" of irregular shape, and I thought, if I can't wear them today, when can I wear them? By then I had already gone for black vs red socks, so they really stood out. But with more snow forecast for tonight/tomorrow, I really don't want to wear boots or booties any more than I absolutely have to!
Wow -- once again, I am completely floored by the amazing interpretations here. But a special shout out to Deb. You are witty as well and strong and beautiful, and brave, and I am honoured that your shared your accessory with us.

L'Abeille, can't wait to see your pics.
Denise, you look sensational and with your knowledge of the film you have added to the fun.
Rachylou, you look shockingly cool in a suit!! I mean it. And as usual, you had me in stitches. Plus, your comments to others deserve an academy award.
Speaking of which, JulieJohn, it is not for nothing you are our Court Jester. You are so, so, so funny!!!! Not to mention sharp.
Astrid, Firecracker, I adore the pattern mixing!!!
Diana, you look sensational in the red. And i love the swirling skirt and bracelet. A very cohesive look, true to the movie and also to you.
Una, you too! You aced this one! And look how great you look in white.

Diane - thank you for the shoe information. Hoping maybe I can find a pair in Canada.

Feeling dizzy from all the fabulous outfit photos today? Is your head spinning from all the fun? Fashion inspiration wheels furiously turning and turning and turning and...

Well, I decided to make you look both in a horizontal and vertical direction to make your head spin today. Horizontal - the stripes on my shirt and vertical - the long form of my jacket. Then to top it off, the jacket has the perfect pattern for vertigo - polka dots! Oh, and just to take the dizziness to the next level, I wore my zebra patterned glasses.

For work, I wore my back booties, and as I am headed out now for dinner with friends, I switched to my red booties as a fun nod to the poster's color.

I'll be back later with my cup of tea to read everyone's posts!

Sona :: I can't get over how fantastic this one is. Pattern mixing and neutral palette perfection, all in one.

Karie :: another take on pattern mixing, I love it. How fantastic to add to the overal vibe of the outfit with the specs as well (yesterday's one would be great too, right?). And changing the footwear illustrates Angie's blog post from today perfectly. Love love love.
Such fabulous dizzying looks, ladies! Ornella your post's writing is super clever ^^ Lyn67 and Deb, I especially enjoyed your posts and the accompanying outfits, and feel very warmed that you both shared with us this insight into yourselves. I do hope that we'll see lots of round up posts, I dearly wanted to comment on everyone's amazing looks but alas work was super hectic this week. I plan to browse through this weekend, there's just too much good stuff to miss!

Here is my outfit for today. The BOLD colors and cutout-like effect of the poster are really striking, so I wanted to work around those ideas. I thought about doing a crazy vertigo-inducing pattern mix, but felt that the simplicity of the poster is its strength. Details in my WIW post for the day

PS Ornella you are a gem for organizing and moderating this challenge, and for providing amazing detailed feedback to each of us! Thank you <3

Ooooo Aida, how I love when you pick up on the ... cutout-like effect... yum! You look so fun and fab I can hardy stand it. Your attention to details blows my mind - I'll have hard time believing the background for the nailpolish shot is not there on purpose too.
Here is my very late contribution. I have originally planned a very different outfit that included white jeans but then it was raining like crazy today and I had to go grocery shopping, which meant that I would be suing my reusable bag which was a present from some dear YLF friends, as was the umbrella. It took me a bunch of attempts to take the final photo, as all the swirls made my camera dizzy too. I was almost going to wear black&white animal print flats too, but decided to show some restraint and go with only four prints

  1. When I saw the poster, I knew my signature midi skirt would fit the bill nicely. It's dizzy abstract pattern and colors were meant to be for this challenge!
  2. I have this black, asymmetrical neckline blouse that I haven't used in awhile. The banded waist helped keep the blouse in a slanted position to mimic the neckline and add to the off-kilter vibe. White dangling cluster earrings and strappy ankle strap sandals (to mimic the concentric lines in the poster) finish the look.
  3. I got my exercise today jumping multiple times to get a half decent pic for this "falling down" look.

Enjoyed seeing everyone's interpretations today! Thanks a bunch Ornella for making this a fun week to get dressed!

AJ, you are too funny; I don't know how you caught the falling-down look. The outfit is very pretty on you.
Ornella, thank you for organizing the challenge. It has been a fun week. Your post today is so fun! I think you built up all week to this final post, didn't you?
Aida, I love the red and white outfit on you. Just gorgeous. How'd you get your nails redone so perfectly since yesterday? Two precision manicures in two days!
Rachylou and Goldenpig, your suits are so nice. Rachylou, it's hard to tell from the photo, but I think the fit looks good.
Deb, your outfit looks great, and I enjoyed reading your thoughtful post.
Cocolion, those are some vertiginous heels indeed! You look terrific in the outfit.
Suz, Ingunn, and Jjsloane, way to put together some amazing classic looks!
Speaking of which, where is Day Vies today?
Lantana and Diane G, those white jeans looks are fab!
So many inspiring looks, I will stop here, but I enjoyed all of them!

AJ, now that is one movie poster worthy of an award!
http://www.hollywoodreporter.c.....art-awards
Oh, all these wonderfull interpretation, made me smile all this morning!

In this thread I learned that we pretty much love here at YLF some swirly, dizzy patterns-hahaha, pun intended:-)) Tanya, AJ,TraceyLiz, Jayne,Jjsloane, Runcarla, Firecracker, Diana,Una comes to my mind!
Another one is that the black'n white with reds is trully a fab combo for any woman(ingunn, Ornell@,Suz, Aida, Deb comes to my mind-but in fact all of us did some kind of use of this color combo!)

Deb, you are a brave Lady-I believe I know it wasn't easy! Thank you for showing us that you can be a stylish person no matter what other challenges we have in our life and please do know your beautiful smile is your best accesory! I also believe that as women we cannot leave us down till we are able to breath and some love of fashion or only small attention to how we dress, can help us boost our confidence in our so called altered ability life as well. YLF as always!:-)
Tanya :: No doubts some animal would look great too, but this is more than delightful as it is. What a cute umbrella and the handbag too. All you people highlight even more that red trench is a staple wardrobe item.

AJ :: you stylish, clever bunch of swirly locks! Post after post you manage to upstage yourself with another level of creativity. I am actually humbled to see the amount of effort people put in this to make it even more fun.

Firecracker :: I think the collective creativity I have witnessed combined with pure joy of participating, led to post coming out as it did. It wasn't planned, it was a spur of the moment thing.

Denise :: thanks for chiming in. As the recent comments are scattered all over the forum and I find it hard to follow up everywhere, let me just say I am sorry to hear what sort of stress prevented you in participating. I hope everything turns out OK with your check and if we managed to cheer you up, than I am more than elated. We all need some sort of escape at hard times. Big hugs.

Lyn67 :: again, I am humbled by the way you gracefully introduced your HA through this challenge. Your words remind me of what my mum used to say about looking after one's appearance. You are so right, little details make so much difference in self-confidence. Nobody else needs to know, but we do, and that counts.
*APPLAUSE*

I am much impressed with the outfits throughout this challenge! Such sass and verve! But most importantly I could see how much fun there was on the forum. That's the point and mission accomplished

Big THANK YOU to incomparable Ornella for managing the challenge. You are a very special lady. xo
Yes, thank you Ornella! This has been a blast!

I'm late to the party because I had to go to a wedding yesterday and didn't have anything appropriate to both the challenge and the occasion. So I deferred Day 5 to today! I was super happy using my spiral necklace to echo the theme of the poster! More details here.

Super fun L'Abeille!
