YLF messages and notifications on our private emails

I've had several exchanges of private messages with forum members today and may have noticed an issue... I can't confirm it 100% but something is not as before.

Usually, when I exchange PMs here on YLF I get email to the email address I used for registration.

But today it was a bit unpredicted. Sometimes there were emails, sometimes not. Or may have been delayed, I'm not sure.

Also, all my conversations were 2 or more PMs each way, but effectively in one thread. Could it be possible that there is no email after the first PM response I receive, but then the email start going through for the subsequent PMs?

I can't be more specific, my sample is too small, but all it takes to recreate it is two people messaging each other a few times

E.g. my latest PM exchange was 20 minutes ago. I still don't have the notification email in my private email inbox. I've asked for the second PM response but the other side has gone off-line in the meantime, so my grand plan to figure it out is not working out....

I hope it makes some sense. If not, I can check it all out in a bit more detail tomorrow.

There might be a problem there. What the system tries to do is batch some of the notifications so you don't get too many of them. But I have also seen some anomalies.

I have it on my list to review the notification system after some of the other issues are taken care of. In the meantime anything you can report about what it is or isn't doing will be super helpful.

Greg were all of the old PMs deleted? I can see how to send a PM to a member (go to their icon), but can't find a page with past PMs. Is this the case? Thanks.

Ornella, I've noticed (even before the update) that if I am on YLF at the moment when a PM comes in and I read the PM immediately, I don't get an email message. I think there is a built-in delay between getting the PM and the email notification? I always thought it was really clever of Greg to design the system like that (no wasted energy to send an email if the PM has already been read).

I've only gotten a couple of PMs since the update but so far they have followed this pattern as well. (I got an email notification for one that came in while I was logged off, and I saw another one immediately while logged on and did not get an email).

I have not noticed such pattern Diana and it is clever idea indeed. It would shed some light on things

To follow up on what I initially wrote with the latest update: I have been off line in the meantime and I got the email for second part of the conversation thread that was started before.
