YLF meetup in New York City!

I just met Maya, Medusa, Debora and Shana in New York -- along with special guests Medusa's Significant Other and Debora's daughter, who is on the forum under the name kindrex. We had lunch in a charming little cafe and then I had to return home, but the rest of the crew went off for an afternoon of shopping.

I'm looking forward to photos of their amazing finds, so I certainly hope they're capturing everything...

What fun -- next time I will definitely arrange things so that I'm able to participate in the shopping part of the day. Thanks for making all the arrangements, Maya -- and again, Happy Birthday!

I have about 40 minutes to kill waiting for my train so I just had to write a few words. The day was fabber than fab and it was like being with friends I've known my whole life. Loved my bday present too but I shan't give too much away just yet.

Today was a beautiful balmy day so all of NYC was out shopping, and the crowds were intense, so we couldn't get around too much, but we did stop in h&m, uniqlo, zara, and esprit. Shana did a lot of pic-taking so I'm sure she will have them ready to share soon.

Soooo April, after you left, we were all discussing what a stunning beauty you are! Your eye color is hands down the most amazing color I have seen. Your outfit was stunning and so was your hair (and your enviable cheekbones). We were discussing meeting again in June so you should join us then for shopping.

Big big thank you to everyone for coming. This meetup made up for my crappy "real" bday experience a hundred times over. I hope it's the first of many to come.

Today was sooooo much fun....I am so glad that we did it! At the moment I feel slightly shell-shocked by the day, because the crowds were INTENSE. After being immersed in the crowds all day, I was ready to crawl under the covers and hide. But it was completely worth it to meet such fab women. You are all wonderful shopping friends, very helpful, positive, and supportive. Shopping together was like having a live version of the forum in the store with me.

I got a fab nautical-inspired striped shirt at Zara which I will model for you soon. It seemed like a good deal for $20. Honestly, I think my boyfriend wound up getting more clothes than the rest of us put together - he found a pair of pants on sale at Esprit, then a major haul at Uniqlo, including a fun Oxford shirt with small purple checks and some undershirts & socks. He adds that he enjoyed meeting everyone and was happy to be the purse-holder.

April, thanks for starting this post, and for joining us for brunch today! It was great to meet you in person. You dress so well, you are so polished and elegant...and I'm still surprised that you referred to your hair as unruly, because it's gorgeous!

Maya, thanks for organizing today's get-together. I was a bit nervous about meeting you after having such a mental image of you in my mind from seeing your photos and forum posts. But the way you are in person matches so well with your online presence that it was an easy transition! I know what you mean about feeling like we'd all already met. I loved seeing some of the clothes & the boots you'd posted about before in person.

Shana, I really enjoyed meeting you and getting to know you better. Thanks for showing us photos of your adorable kids and handsome husband! I'm glad you wore one of "your" BR cardigans so that I got to see it in person. You are so fun to shop with and I loved your comments about the 90s fashion revival.

Debora, I'm so glad that you and your daughter were able to join us today - I feel honored that you traveled up here to meet us! I loved your beautiful dress, and I know that lots of other people did too because random strangers were giving you compliments on it! Your daughter has clearly inherited your great sense of style because she looked killer as well. Thanks for sharing with us your stories about your family and your travels.

I hope we can do this again!

Ooops, I forgot to comment about what I wore. I probably was over-thinking my outfit, but I was so nervous about what to wear to meet YLFers! I decided to go with things that had YLF-related symbolism. So of course I had to wear the Club Monaco microcheck pants, because I only own them because of Maya - she told me which store had them, on sale for $7, in my size. Wearing them seemed like an appropriate tribute to Maya's birthday. I also wore my Fluevog Tennyson Oxfords and gray tailored vest from Macy's because finding both the shoes and the vest were long searches for me that required lots of hand-holding from the forum, so I felt like they came from a major group effort. I put this together with a pink cowl-neck tshirt, because cowl neck tops were one of the first suggestions of Angie's that I tried and really liked - that top is now a favorite. Finally I added the black flower pin that came with a black Lane Bryant necklace that Angie had in the store, because it was my first purchase from Angie's store.

So, see what I mean about over-thinking it? But if anyone will appreciate this, it's all of you.

Wow -- that sounds like a great afternoon. I would absolutely love to join in any June shopping trips that are in the works.

Maya, your comments were so sweet. It was a pleasure to share your birthday with you -- and talk about looking fab. It's too hard to describe color and pattern in words (Michelle, I will make an attempt if it would be helpful) but I will say this: as I was approaching our designated restaurant, from a distance I saw a woman standing on the corner who was a beautiful blur of dark hair and red and purple and I thought, "Oh, there's Maya." And so it was.

Debora and daughter -- tall, slim, elegant. Is there a better combination? It was great to meet both of you and bask in the mother-daughter connection that you clearly have.

Medusa -- we spent a little time at brunch talking about your amazing transformation that has happened before our eyes! So great to see it in person.

Shana -- I so wish I had seen your note about coordinating train schedules. Next time we will definitely do that. (And here is a confession: when reading your posts on the forum, I have been saying your name wrong in my head as shay-na, and learned by listening today that it is shah-na. I'm glad to know that, but just so you know, when pronounced the other way it's a Yiddish word that means "beautiful" -- very appropriate!)

Kindrex and I have just collapsed on the couch with our feet up and glasses of wine within arm's reach. We are so touched to read these lovely recaps of the day. Words cannot describe how special it was to meet such wonderful You Look Fab friends. The crowds in Soho were intense, but we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day, weather-wise. We were absolutely blown away by the group's fantastic style, and felt as if we were long-time friends. I suppose that's a testament to the close-knit nature of this community. We started out our afternoon with a delicious brunch at a French cafe. Then, fortified for an afternoon of shopping, we headed downtown to peruse some of New York's most stylish stores. I'm sure many of our fabulous finds will make their appearance on the forum in the near future! Finally, we ended our day by relaxing over tea and snacks at a tiny Aussie-owned cafe tucked away on a Soho sidestreet.

Maya - thank you so much for organizing this special afternoon. I hope this birthday celebration is a predictor of many good things to come for you during your 26th year. Your shining style is matched by your vivacious personality.

April - we wish we could have had more time with you. We so enjoyed the opportunity to get to know you over brunch, however. You are absolutely stunning! We look forward to hopefully seeing you again soon during a future NYC You Look Fab meet-up.

Shana - your quick wit had us laughing all afternoon, while your enthusiasm kept the group's energy high. I felt like I was in the presence of a long-time friend. You certainly have a great eye for style, and looked fabulous today.

Medusa - I'm still inspired by how awesome you looked today, and loved that you put so much consideration into YLF-ing your outfit. The symbolism was not lost on us. I especially loved the pink cowl-neck with the flower pin accent. P.S. Many thanks to your boyfriend. Not only was he great company, but he was such a sweetheart to hold our purses and coats for us! Not to mention, out-shop us all.

Kindrex - thank you so much for hosting me this weekend. I loved your polka-dot outfit...I think Angie would approve. Our mother-daughter time together means more than I can describe.

I hope that we will all be able to enjoy many more YLF gatherings! Today was the best.

Yay! I'm so glad that everyone had a fabulous time! Although I never doubted it for a second :0). Wish I could have been there too. (Brings back memories doesn't it, Laura).

Maya will be writing a post for the blog about the recent NYC gathering so everyone will need to hold on a little bit longer. I'm excited!
