YLF Challenge - Shell challenges Alecia

Alecia, your style has truly evolved since you joined the forum! You have literally rocked every single look, from skinnies to leggings to dresses! And you've perfected nearly every wardrobe style - casual (from your fab biking outfits), smart casual, business (you are the queen of suits! love your new charcoal suit!), etc.

With that in mind, I'm completely confident you can pull off this challenge...

I'd like to see you put together an outfit inspired by a woman in politics.

The outfit can be casual, smart casual, business - whatever! Maybe you'd like to rock the belt + cardigan trends of Michelle Obama, don a colorful pants-suit like Hilary Clinton, sport a smart skirt-suit with a bold shoe like Sarah Palin...the list goes on! If possible, it would be nice to see the "inspiration photo" along with your outfit!

Hmmm. This one is interesting. I did a little research last night. I have to say, there's not a lot out there. This might take me a day or two to come up with something you haven't already seen. But I'm definitely up for the challenge.

alecia, have you checked out http://www.mrs-o.org ? if you wanted to go the Michelle Obama route, they have tons of great outfits!

Ok. So I'm afraid the outfit I came up with isn't terribly exciting. It goes for the tried and true black and power red look. I think I may be a little limited by my real life experience since I work in politics and can tell you that for every Michelle Obama there's probably 500 people that do frumpy suits. We're not style trend setters as a rule. And it's true, when I think of politics, I think power suit. Personally, if I have to testify in front of a committee, I want to be in a suit. (I once saw a young legislator wear a mini dress to work in the Capitol. She had the bod for it, but people didn't really take her seriously. Like it or not, it's kind of the way it goes.) Nonetheless, I do like to add some whimsy.

Ooooh, I like what you did with the power suit! The color of the top is lovely, and the long roped necklace and gorgeous ring are KAPOW great. Pretty heels, a nice tulip skirt -- I'm not seeing a lot of boring here! Nice job.

Honestly, when I read this challenge, I immediately thought of Nancy Pelosi for you. I really like her fashion style and her political style.

Great outfit Alecia! I like how the jacket is structured, but you keep it fun with the flirtier skirt. Also, I don't think I've seen your photo in a while. Did you get a new haircut? I really like it this shorter length.

This is SPOT ON. Nancy Pelosi is a good choice, style wise. What I love most is that you still look like yourself and the outfit is completely authentic to what I have seen of your style, and yet it met and exceeded the challenge all the same. That rope necklace did the trick!
