A friend is having a birthday dinner party tomorrow night. I'd hoped to wear something Spring-y and delicate, but fate and the weather have thwarted that plan. I sprained my big toe a few days ago, and the swelling hasn't gone completely down. Now the weather forecast says it will be in the 40s and rainy for the party. I ransacked my closet (still jammed with stuff for all seasons and in desperate need of a clean-out--next week, I hope) and found an almost forgotten simple black sweater dress with a swing-y shape. One of Angie's Winter posts popped into my head. I looked it up, and realized that it would work: sweater dress, patterned hose, and tall leather boots with chunky heels. My tall boots, a half-size big to accommodate thick socks, feel just right for my poor toe when worn with textured tights. In lieu of a scarf, I'm adding a long gold chain lariat-style necklace tipped with branch coral, and topping off with my slightly glamorous black satin Zara trench. Maybe not the most exciting party outfit I've ever come up with, but comfortable, appropriate, and a huge relief knowing that I won't have to attend in my mesh exercise sneaks! I'm sure I'm not not alone in being saved from a fashion disaster by one of Angie's archived posts. Has it happened to you?
