The weather here has been awful. Our current weather pattern is thunderstorms every night ending in the morning. Then everything clears off and the sun comes out. The temperature jumps up into the upper 80s and lower 90s. And because the ground is absolutely saturated it becomes ghastly humid by lunch time. Rainforest humid. So the weather is my first consideration when facing my closet in the morning.
I was running a bit behind this morning so I quickly grabbed one of my day dresses, a pair of strappy sandals, popped in a pair of earrings, put on my rings and was out the door.
Just as I was getting in my car, it hit me. An amazing thing had just happened. The weather is awful, I was in a hurry, I didn’t really even think about what I was putting on, and I LOOKED NICE. Maybe not fancy or killer but, defintely nice. You have no idea how huge this is for me.
If this had been last summer with the same scenario, I would have been sporting a very different look. Even though I work in an office for a large corporation, the dress code is basically ‘you can’t come to work naked.’ And I abided by the dress code. I would have been wearing a shapeless t-shirt, flip-flops, and boys shorts (as in shorts that once belonged to one of my teenaged sons). And, yes, I just felt your collective shudder. According to my mother, what you are feeling right now is called proper mortification.
So in my car on my way to work I thought of you, my YLF girlfriends. I got to have this because of you. Every post, every comment, every photo is helping me on my fashion journey. Thanks so much for helping me learn that I deserve to be on the road of feelingfabeveryday.
So I enjoyed my drive to work with a picture in my head of all of us crammed into my little car celebrating this victory. Thanks again everyone. You rock!
