yet another Boden sizing question - help!!!

I'm also considering jumping on the the Boden clams bandwagon, considering I don't own a single pair of denim shorts.

I'm thinking of the white, because the vintage wash looks a bit too faded, and I feel like pushing myself to try white denim. (Does anyone own the vintage wash incidentally? Is it as light as it looks on the website?)

So a question for the Boden-owners. Those who have said size down, do you mean from the US->UK conversion suggestions, or by the actual size measurements?? Their sizing system is confusing!

My waist is 30-31inches.

If I go by garment measurements, it suggests I should get size 10UK, but by body measurements that converts to UK14. Using the US->UK conversion chart they supply that should also suggest a UK14.

So what should I order - the 10 or 14? Or should I split the difference and get the 12s (esp. if they will stretch)?? I can't remember how UK and Aussie sizes compare, but I'd probably get a 12 in Aussie sizes if they are the same.

Just a little confused by all this converting...

Tam, do you happen to know your US dress size? Because in the Boden clams, a UK 10 fits a small US size 6. A UK 12 would be on the large end of a US size 6. I am clueless about Aussie sizing so can't be much help there.

I have the vintage wash and it is not light denim. It's not dark-dark denim, but I wouldn't call it light either. But the white ones (and they are not a bright white, but more of a winter white) are for sure super versatile. They do not stretch much, if at all.

Tam, I ordered the white and vintage in the 10R and they should be here soon. I've received notification that the order has been shipped. I'll let you know how they fit when I get them. I'm keeping my fingers crossed since I went with the smaller of the size 6's.

IMO the Boden clams fit really strange. I am a US 6 so I first ordered the 12 and they were huge. Sent them back for the 10 and they are skin tight and are not loosening up whatsoever. I don't think it is meant to be for me and Boden clams infortunately:-(

Hmm I always thought UK and Aussie sizing were the same. If you take a US size 8 I would try a Boden 12. If you're a US 10, try the 14.

10 doesn't sound right to me though. I think that's a US 6.

My US size is mostly a 10 (except at H+M where it was 12). So it sounds like I should go for the 14 then if you lasses who are US6s are going for the UK10s!!!!

No Anne I haven't lost weight. My waist is still 30-31" but more squishy than it used to be if anything!!! 18 hours days = bad eating patterns (like scavenging around in fridges for leftover patient food at 1130pm because you haven't yet eaten dinner and there's nowhere open to get it from anymore!) I had to stay back to asisst with one last Caesarean (there werw 5 emergency ones last night!) and I was seriously struggling to stand up straight by that point!!! I went to the gym only once last week - *really* need to get back into it!!!!

Hi Tam, I also found the sizing of the Boden clams to be odd. My COH jeans are a size 27 which I have been told is a size 4. I ordered the 8's in the Boden clams and I couldn't get them on (both white and blue denim). I sent them back and ordered the 10 and here is a picture of them. I have only received the replacement for the blue denim.

I am 5'8" tall, average proportions, and you can see they hit right below the knee.
The fabric is nice and does not stretch out very much during wearing. I would not put these on and have them be super tight and think they will stretch out to be just right. I'd say they should feel right when you first put them on and they will stay right.
Also the white is sort of a cream if I remember right.

Another question for everyone: do you find the garment measurements they post to be accurate???

I am so in love with the Teal fun skirt that's currently not on sale. I'm considering splurging on this skirt next pay, but really want to make sure I get the size right!! Their size 12 has a 30.3" waist according to garment measurements, so that sounds about right to me. I think the 14s at 34" would be too big!!

San if you are "average" proportions that makes me very "above average" We are the same height but my waist (and everythinge else) is bigger than yours. I think I will go for the 14s in the clams though!!

San, did you get the 15" or the 17" inseam on yours? They look like they hit right below the knee on you.

Debora, I was wondering the same thing about the length of San's clams, because I have the same size and am 4 inches shorter, and they hit me in the same place that they are hitting San. I am assuming San went for the "long" length?

Tam, my Boden clams came in the mail today and I think I'm going to return them. The 10R's are pretty much skin tight on me. I feel like I'm stuffed into them and spilling over the top.

I'm going to exchange them for the 12's and hope that they won't be too big.

Here's a picture so you can see the wash. It's darker than I thought but has more fading on the thighs than I expected. They come to just under my knees.

The white pair was a creamy white as others had stated, but very nice. The fit on these were a tad bit snugger than the vintage.

Debora - gosh they look awesome on you!! It is a shame they feel too tight!! Are you sure they won't stretch a little?? They look perfect on you!!! They hit you at a great spot just below the knee too!!!

Do you mind me asking what US size you normally are? Am I right in thinking its a 6 from your previous comment?? If so I think I will need to order the 14 at least.

Are you going to order the blue denim and the whites in 12s? I do hope they work out!!!

Tam, I am a US size 6 and sometimes I can even wear a 4 if the brand runs big. US size 8's are usually too big on me and that's why I think the Boden size 12 might be too big. The problem is that while these (size 10) look good in the photo, I could barely get them buttoned! Several people have reported that the Boden's don't stretch much so I think these aren't an option for me.

I think part of the problem for me is that my waist has gotten bigger. Darned middle-age! I've started walking again and am trying yoga. Hope I can nip this in the bud!

So, I'm going to try the bigger size and if this doesn't work for me then I guess I'll have to continue the hunt for the perfect clams!

Well, now I'm really conflicted! I just remeasured myself and my measurements are spot on for the size 10's. I don't know why I can't put them on unless I'm holding my breath and really sucking in my tummy. Sorry if I'm making this more difficult for you.

Tam, I tried the Boden clams (vintage wash) in a UK 14 and they were a little snug around the bum area. But then again that's because of the size of my particular bum Everywhere else they fit quite well and were comfortable:

They have very little stretch and like everybody said, they don't feel like they will grow much with wear either. I know you wear a 10 comfortably in the Club Monaco Ursula pants, so I think the UK 14s will fit similarly? Either ways, I hope these pictures will help you decide

This may be too late to be useful, but...my experience is that the Boden clams do stretch out over time, especially in the waist. So if they start out snug they may be worth keeping.

I have the white/cream Boden clams in a 10, regular length. Here's a picture:

Great outfit Medusa, and Niva you look great in the clams too!!! They seem pretty unviersally flattering!!

Debora you're right, this did all becoming too confusing!! I also couldn't decide whether I needed to go for regular or long length!!! Unfortunately I spent so long oscillating about what to do these are now sold out in the 14s!! After seeing pics of Niva in the 14s I am pretty sure thats what I should go for, since we both wear the same size CM microchecks!!!

I *did* put in an order for some other items yesterday though! I was excited to see that the Boden Uk site ships directly to Australia, for reasonable postage and with returns available.

I figured if I don't try anything, I'll never know my size. I went for 2 of the tops on sale and that fun skirt I have been drooling over ever since I saw it. I'm hoping it arrives before it gets too warm to wear it here this winter! Plus I figure if the size 14 in regular length (still undecided whether to go long or not) doesn't fit there are plenty in stock so I'll have time to exchange it before they run out!!
