A simple outfit including my favourite combination of red and navy. Love this mens Ralph Lauren cotton knit I scored for a euro or two. My question is regarding these shoes. I have been wearing them as indoor shoes for two winters. They have a supportive heel that has helped improve my planter fasciitis. They hurt the back of my foot originally but are now comfy. They always felt a bit much, a bit like something Ronald McDonald would wear. Do you think I should take them outside this Spring?
PS: I have received compliments on them but really would love honest feedback from the forum

Well I love them from the front! Have always loved red shoes.
You probably know I have a penchant for dainty or refined shoes so have to admit I am not so keen on the chunky soles. However your taste may be different!

Thanks JENNI for your perspective. I have other red shoes that I like. I usually prefer chunkier heels. Maybe it is the combination I am not entirely sold on. Hhmm.

Absolutely wear them to go out! They are beautiful. I love colored shoes.
Try them with sheer tights.

I really like the chunky soles. For me the colour would be too bright, but that’s me. I just don’t love bright colours on me, especially in footwear. But I certainly don’t think they look like Ronald McDonald shoes. The style looks current to me.

Also: as a fellow PF sufferer, I put a high value on shoes that allow me to be pain free.

Your description really made me laugh! I think they are quite beautiful and not like Ronald McDonald but maybe I would prefer them in a less matchy application?

I say try them, but if you feel self conscious all day and they're not "forgettable," then continue wearing at home.

I love them and the chunky soles! That being said, I am not a fan of red anything on me, so am not a good judge. I will say that there are a lot of red shoes around style blogs this spring so maybe try it and see how it feels.

I think they are great! I'd personally wear them with a sheer sock or no sock at all though. I have a pair of red patent flat slingbacks that I wear with black pants or black jeans once every few weeks to work and get tons of compliments on them.

Oh I don't mind them, they look comfortable too but I would probably just let them be the one colourful statement in my outfit.

I like them. Their color and chunky sole makes me think these are a good statement shoe with simple outfits so it can stand out. I’d happily wear them outside the house.

Like Dee and Cookie, I’d try them with a neutral outfit and no-show or neutral socks so they are a singular accent. I think they’d be brilliant with a pair of mid or light wash jeans and a white (or light neutral of your choice) shirt. They’re great and I think you should wear and enjoy!

I’ve always liked red shoes. I say keep them. Like others, I would suggest a simple outfit, no show socks and not a repeated color but an accent. In other words, maybe not with your RL sweater.

I love red shoes! These look very fun for you! I agree to try no-show socks with these.

Also, I would try pairing these shoes with a skirt, just for a fun Tomgirl/Tomboy pairing. I think that could amp things up a lot and be a really cute look on you!

I love them and would let them be the star of the outfit. If I found such fun shoes that worked for my plantar fasciitis I would wear them for sure, but I am a fan of chunky soles and I like red.

As I may have recounted before, I got in trouble on the first day of first grade by wearing red shoes with a dreary gray uniform that was supposed to go with BLACK shoes, as I suppose they thought was so obvious as to go without saying. To this day I feel I am sort of getting away with something if I wear them!

I did wear them out today, I was wearing my short navy puffer on top and zipped up because it is cold again (grrr). So the red shoes were the star of the navy top and bottom. I did not see anyone giving my feet a second glance and I did not feel too self-conscious (Suntiger good advice). You could not see the maroon sock as the jeans cover the sock part, and I never sat. I really love the ideas. I agree to always make them the statement.

Cookie I love your childhood tale which I have not heard here before. I have a very clear visual in my head of little Cookie in her red shoes :). Usually I like feeling rebellious so not sure what was going on with these shoes but I think the maiden voyage has cured it. Sometimes I have the same feeling when I wear white shoes. Yet I love them on others. Btw they are not as bright as in the photo. My phone tends to makes reds look super bright, more than they are IRL. They are a true postbox red.

I do like them, but this is really a question of "are you wearing it, or is it wearing you?" That is something you feel out yourself. If the shoes match your personality--great. If they are bigger than, or somehow awkward, then no. I'd wear them on a simple errand, and see how you feel.

Twenty years ago when I briefly lived in France, it was very popular for French men to wear red shoes with an otherwise all-neutral outfit. In fact it was so popular as to be almost a cliche. I wonder if it’s still a thing? That would be my inspiration if I had your shoes. Looks like others have made the same suggestion upthread.

I LOVE red shoes, and these are fabulous. I too have PF, and if I had a pair of shoes that felt good, I would find a way to wear them. I'm so glad others were able to offer some ideas, and that you felt comfortable "out and about". Rock those shoes!

Thanks Everyone! I read last night on Midlife Chic blog that any red shoe will update your outfit this season. So outside shoes they are from yesterday forward.

ValMN interestingly my late Dad always had a pair of red shoes that he wore on very special occassions. As a statement, no matchy-matchy.
